How long is it taking to get a refund for a membership?

Hi

Has anyone requested a membership refund recently? How long did you have to wait for the support team to get back to you?

I wanted to pay for a month, however I was charged $99 (yearly fee) 😞

Like many sites these days, subscriptions are year-long commitments.  However, you can request a refund from Chess.com within 30 days of your subscription.  I don't know how long it takes to get a refund, but reaching out to support is the best way.

See this support article: https://support.chess.com/article/572-what-are-your-payment-policies-refunds-services-currency-etc

Welp, I opened the support ticket almost 3 days ago and still no reply. I hope someone gets back to me soon.

Same here, I opted in for a 7 day free premium and never thought I would be automatically billed for a 1 year subscription after these seven days ended. Yes, it was probably there in fine print somewhere but they should be quite clear about the fact that seven days free premium leads to 100 euros being withdrawn after 7 days...

If you logged the request through the web site via Help --> Billing Issues or using the "Contact Us" button, an automated immediate reply would have been sent to the email you supplied: if you don't recall seeing that, then there may be a typo in the email or it might be in your junk folder, and the Support team might have troubles contacting you. But that should verify that they've received your enquiry.

As to how long it takes, with the surge in members and enquiries recently, I'd give it at least 7 days before then following up with them. They'll definitely be able to help, though.

I received this email 4 days ago after opening the support request.

Hello Richard!
Thank you for contacting Chess.com Member Support. We have received your request and are working to get back to you as soon as possible. Due to the recent online chess boom and holiday season, we hope you will be extra patient when waiting for our replies. We're answering as fast as we can and are hiring and training new staff in order to be able to service you more quickly!
We appreciate your patience and support.

So I guess I just gotta keep on waiting.

Richard_Cr

It has been 7 days since I tried contacting support and still no reply from them. Does anyone know how I could follow up with them regarding this matter?

Hey @Richard_Cr, as the previous e-mail says, they've received your request and will get back to you. My suggestion would be to give it some more time! Contacting support multiple times will not make it faster.

matt_sd

My experience is that they will answer and fix any issue you have, but it will take some time. It took seven days for me...

I had billing issues problem too. I downgraded from diamond to gold an I got a charge of 29.99 euros instead to get a time extension. I send an email but I did not get any reply. The chess.com support does not work at all!!

Richard_Cr

They eventually adjusted the yearly charge, it's just taking them some time to get back to ppl.

I would suggest you make sure you opened a support ticket correctly and that you also received a sort of automatic reply like this one:

Hello Richard!
Thank you for contacting Chess.com Member Support. We have received your request and are working to get back to you as soon as possible. Due to the recent online chess boom and holiday season, ....

Just wondering, did they end up responding to your ticket? I'm in the same boat.

In the post above yours he stated that they did in fact get back to him happy.png they will respond to you as well, don't worry!

I waited 2 weeks for a similar problems and I still could not solve it! I trying to make a complain through paypal. The chess.com support is amazing slow. No sense for a website like that and no sense for what we paid for the annual membership.

The same thing just happened to me too lol. I just contacted membership support and I really hope they respond. I am very depressed right now. I can't really afford the premium subscription.

Last I saw, they were experiencing a continued backlog since new ticket submissions are still really high. Around 12 days was the upper time limit to be contacted, though it could be quicker.

So I have tried do the.one week free trial but I got debited the whole year subscription amount right in the first day of my Seven days free trial. Did anyone experienced this before. I have requested a refund through mail, their website. I can't afford this yearly subscription now. Do I need to request anywhere else. Someone please help.

If you requested a refund, you don't need to do anything else, just make sure to check your email, including your spam/junk folders in case they have questions.
