How the rating refunds work?

A few weeks ago I played a cheater and recently his account was closed but I didn't get rating back. From my point of view my opponent was an obvious cheater. Just a few months ago he was a 700-rated player with 50% winrate and now "by some miracle" he became 2300+. In my game against him I figured out that he's a cheater right out of the opening. Because no strong player would play 10. Qa6 in 6 seconds when it's an only move and well known theory.

Please tell me why when I losing to cheaters I don't get refunds.

Thanks.

I feel for you, you should definitely get your points back!

Looking at the game, he had 92%. He played 4 innacuracies, 1 miss, 7 good. He probably turned off the engine for a bit so he could escape detection.

Sorry for your bad luck.

It is even worse on Blitz. So many dodgy players, the ratings are now 300 points below what they should be. I am 1700 and every single game I am seeing 2000-2200 as the estimated rating of my opponents

Hello, I also had many situations where I lost to cheaters and then had their accounts blocked by chess.com. Even though I lost games to cheaters, I did not regain my lost points. And I worked hard for it before.

I stopped worrying about it because I noticed many imperfections on chess.com that I have no influence on. That's why I mostly switched to social games and don't worry about losses.
I am surprised that such an advanced platform as chess.com has such simple and banal shortcomings when it comes to ranking.

If I wanted to, I could easily get a ranking around 1700 elo and without engines... even though I am aware that my level is much lower. But there are people who need to improve their self-esteem and build their ranking through cheating and then become self-righteous and contemptuous of their opponents in social games. However, they are often afraid of ranking games (when I challenge them to a duel, they refuse) because they are aware that they can lose a lot in the ranking, which means that they will no longer be able to shine and show off their pseudo-intelligence.

I believe it has to do with the amount of games youve played since facing the cheater. If you have played a lot of games, chess.com assumes that your rating has normalized again and you don't get a refund. They've been getting really bad about catching cheaters / looking at reports recently too.

I’m a very low rated player but I have been playing the game for 65 years. I truly love the game. I have lost to cheater and find it very difficult to get my points back. The only way to elicit change is to make noise!!!!!!!

No sense. Don't you have anything else to do? It's a waste of nerves.

I wouldn't really worry about losing ratings points to a cheater. If you rating goes down, you will play easier players, and then your rating will go up again. It will all wind up fine in the end. Also, the rating doesn't matter too much. We should not worry too much about ratings, or winning or losing. Just do your best and enjoy the game. The wost thing that happened to me, is someone accused me of cheating. He thought I was making moves too good for my rating. I told him that I never cheat, but he wouldn't believe me, and threatened to report me. I contacted chess.com about this, and they got back to me right away. They told me that the other player had broken the rules by accusing me of cheating, and that they would take some sort of action against him for that.
