how to start a challenge in a preset position

Hello,

I would like to challenge a friend starting from a particular position. For instance, we were playing in person but had to interrupt. Now I would like to send the challenge starting from the position we left on the table.

Is this possible at all?

Thanks in advance for your help

Yes, but you will need to get the FEN string for that position. You can do that by using the Analysis board.

Once you have that you can start a game from a custom position. I think you will need to be on v3.

Thank you Martin!

I managed to get the FEN but am not sure what you mean by v3. I see I can select any opening in the history of chess but a chance to start from a custom position is not there (or at least I cannot see it).

Any tip?

Thanks again!

If there is a link at the bottom of most pages that says Try the new Chess.com, then you are v2 of the site. If you click that it will take you to v3 and the game from FEN option should be available, but only under Daily games.

I found it! Thank you SO much!

I had the v2, as you mentioned. Now I switched to v3 and I can see the option :-)

Thanks again

Have a great weekend!

I am late to this discussion, but I have a similar issue. I got into a particular position versus a friend and discussed it with another friend. I want to challenge the second friend to play from that position, but I can't seem to get the FEN code and challenge working...

I have what I THINK is the FEN string from Analysis board, but when I create a challenge and use Custom FEN setting and copy paste it in there, the little preview board doesn't populate and I cannot issue the challenge. Any ideas/help? Cannot find anyone else talking about this.

Thanks.

If the chess board remains blank, the syntax of your FEN maybe incorrect.

What is the FEN?

I'm only half sure I have the FEN string.

Does this look correct?

r2qkbnr/ppp2ppp/8/4N3/P1pPp3/2NbP3/1PnK1PPP/R1BQ1B1R b kq - 1 10

The FEN position is displaying OK for me in the analysis board and the custom challenge.
