How to upgrade account with paypal without creditcard/bankaccount?

I want to upgrade my account with paypal, but for certain reasons Paypal doesn't accept my credit card/bank account. I contacted their support and they only accept my cc/ba if I also show my ID, which I'd prefer not to.

However, I just wanted to upgrade my chess.com account to Platina for 1 month (later maybe higher/longer if I still like it then), but when I tried to buy it, it offered a 10-day free trial and required my creditcard information.

Is there any way to avoid this? I'm not looking to use solutions that require me paying directly through bank accounts, as I got a limited balance on those. PS: My paypal balance is higher than the required $7 for Platina Monthly upgrade, so that shouldn't be the problem.

Thanks in advance!

Can you just use a credit card and then pay monthly? I am sure chess.com wouldn't mind and if you paid on time you wouldn't be charged interest. Personally, I don't know why people us Paypal. Does it allow you an extra month or something?

I appreciate your help, but as stated in my post, I'm not looking for those kinds of solutions that require me to pay directly through bank/cc.

I don't often use Paypal, as it's complete crap. I mainly use cryptocurrencies online, as those are way more reliable. However, Chess.com doesn't accept cryptocurrencies (yet), thus I sold some crypto to get some Paypal money. However, now I can't upgrade my account with my paypal balance, apparently.

I also think Chess.com wouldn't mind if I just paid $7 now and get 1 month of Platina. However, I got no idea how to do that. Would contacting their support help?

I guess you have to explain to us why cryptocurrency is the way to go. If it were me, and I saw cryptocurrency as superior, then I would use my bank account with it instead of paypal.

Who exactly do you contact when things go wrong with your cryptocurrency?  I have a bank account and a guy who answers my calls. However, I don't know if the guy running ship for cryptocurrency is in Nigeria or Sudan.

The whole thing with cryptocurrencies is that you are the boss of your funds. You are responsible for keeping your private keys (passwords) safe. If you keep them safe, there’s no need to contact anyone, because you keep your funds.

The only potential problem could be when the value of cryptos decline, but there’s an equal chance of it growing, so that’s no problem for me personally.

However, we’re going off-topic now. I just want a solution for this, not a discussion about whether cryptos are the way to go. For you they might be crap, but for me they are the best way to finance my online needs.

Something of this nature should be addressed by opening a ticket with the billing dept directly rather than causing all kinds of suspicion on why you don't want to use a traditional bank with ID.      https://support.chess.com/customer/portal/emails/new?ticket[custom1]=Billing

I didn't mean to start discussions on why I didn't want to use a bank directly to pay for the upgrade. I just wanted help with this issue. I already submitted a support ticket, but at the support page it said I should post it on the fora too, as it states this:

  • Try Asking in the Help & Support Forums - Tens of thousands of members on Chess.com can help you out. Also, your question has probably already been asked! Before contacting support, please click here to get help in the forums!

So I don't see a reason to start going mad at me. I'm just new here and trying to find my way. I hope you understand!

Hello chess.com  I should think someone on your team can answer @HashPanda with good explanation.

Not to be nosy but,  "Paypal won't accept my card/account with out ID".......??       Have you ever been a victim of identity thief.?

Your best bet for something like this would be to contact the support team.  However, have you considered a prepaid debit card?

No, I haven't and I would like to keep it that way.

Contacted them.

I have considered a prepaid debit card, but couldn't find a good online provider for those.

Thanks for your help though, guys!

Please continue discussing with MGleason. He IS a Staff member and can direct your quandry to the billing dept. happy.png

Well, actually I'm just a volunteer moderator, and don't have any access to billing information or anything like that.  The best option is to go direct to the support team who can deal with things like this.

I believe chess.com used to accept bitcoin, but I'm not sure if they still do.  A lot of organisations have stopped accepting bitcoin due to the extreme volatility in recent months.

On prepaid debit cards, here's a site primarily targeted at people in the UK who will be travelling to the U.S., but some of the links might be useful: https://www.moneysupermarket.com/prepaid-cards/dollars/
