I just want to play a slow game with a friend online, can I do that here?

What I mean is, I want us to be able to exchange moves at our leisure, and just keep the game going, without having to maintain (and not knock over) a physical board at each of our houses. Is there a provision on this site to do that? I see all kinds of other chess-related stuff, a lot of it great I'm quite certain, but I can't figure out how to do this basic thing, or if it's even possible.

Hi YeoJimmy, welcome to Chess.com  Smile

Sure, you can do that.  Go into 'Online Chess', which is turn-based and you can start a game with your friend with 1 week per move if you want to (or 1 day, 2 days ... whatever).  You can play rated or unrated.

You would both need accounts, and then you can play an "online" game, and you can send your friend a challenge.

Also, if you go into your settings, make sure "Auto Win on Time" is unchecked. This way, if you or your friend go over the time limit, the game won't automatically end, and you can just play casually that way.
