iPhone app issue?

So I can't use the mobile app anymore. At different points in a game, I will move and my opponent won't. Their clock will count down as if they're not moving or they've abandoned the game. Their clock will count down to 0.00 on the timer and then it will tell me I've lost due to time running out!

I have an iPhone 5s, iOs 8, and the lastest chess.com app. This same issue has occured on my iPad mini on the latest iOs 9 and chess.com app. On my phone, it happens whether I'm using 4G LTE or wifi. The iPad can only connect to wifi. My Macbook on the same wifi works without issue, so I do not believe it's my network/connectivity.

I can supply pre-loss and post-loss scree shots for reference if that helps.

Is anyone else experiencing this? Is there anything I can do?

Yep, has been really noticeable over the last couple of days on my iPhone.

had this issue too on ipod with ios 9.2 , now it seems to be gone. also - game lost by abandonment if u try to switch from laptop to mobile during a game most of the time. so annoying.

I just had that issue from the mobile app, my opponent should have lost on time but after his timer ran to 0:00, it would say I lost due to time!

Any comment from chess.com staff?

This sounds like a case where lag is affecting your experience. If you're on wifi it's best to be sure you're in a spot where your signal is strongest. The same goes for data.

Kirkwood,

I've been on WiFi, which was 10 feet from my $200 router with, and Internet speeds of 30 MB/s up and 100 MB/s down, or on 4G LTE, and the same issue persists. I'm happy to provide more details/screen shots if needed, but I do not believe it's related to lag.

Murtank
Its not a lag issue, its a client bug. The client does not send the move to the server but it shows you that it did. Normally, a client will receive some sort of acknowledgement that the server received the data before triggering an event like starting the opponents clock... For whatever reason the designers chose not to do this. Because of that you get all kinds of issues like desynchronized clocks and unregistered moves

That's very interesting, Murtank. I'm no dev and I'm not savvy in these matters, but it seems like a terrible decision to do it that way. I don't recall having these issues before, where as now I don't use the apps anymore.

i'm having a similar issue, I get the 'game update failed message' click retry and the piece has moved, but the system has not actually registered the move so it still says its my go, the clock couts down as if its my go but I cant do anything...its very frustrating and happened just as I was putting my opponent into check mate....now i'm going to loose on time!¬ ...I have had a similar thing happen on a previous game where I put my opponent into checkmate and he was able to get out of it by doing a bizzare illegal glitch move.... I'm not technical either but if the system has to recieve your move and then display the checkmate message then calulate scores etc then there is more scope for things to go wrong?

Any other comments from the staff on these issues?

I'm an android user having the same problems. I love chess. com, but I cannot stand the frustration any longer. I've gotta try to find another free chess app....

I can't get the tactics to work in the app. It just just hangs and doesn't set the board up or anything. Any ideas?
