iPhone app: no support for iOS 9

I have an Apple device that is limited to iOS 9. I was happily using the chess.com app on it every day, but when I had to factory-reset the device, I found the App Store does not allow download of an older compatible version.

Apps from Google (maps, youtube, etc.), Twitter, etc., will give me a message to the effect, "This app requires iOS 10 but an older version is available."

Will chess.com make an older version available? Or is there another solution for an iOS 9 device? (I tried visiting chess.com in Safari -- I think you could make moves in a game, but the Tactics Trainer did not work at all.)

Hi guys – I am having exactly the same issue. The Chess.com app is a huge reason why I bought my iPad (3rd generation) – how can I get an older version of the app to work? Could you allow the last stable iOS 9 app to be added to the app store?

Only 5% of Apple devices run iOS 9 or less.

It has been suggested there are one billion Apple devices in active use today. So... only 50 million devices that would benefit from chess.com putting an old version they already have made on the App Store...

The same happened to me. Poor my son, he cannot play chess anymore after his mini ipad 1 got the hard reset. Is there any solution to get the older version that’s compatible with iOS 9.3.5?

Well, everyone is getting the latest iPhone now... it's a good time to get a hand-me-down iPhone 5 or 6 happy.png

Hi, you can go to app store on your ipad 3, click "Purchased" and find the app there. Click and then it will ask whether you want to download the latest compatible version. And then you know what to do.

For those who haven't downloaded the app before, if you want to install it on an old iOS, you could use/borrow a new device to download the app from the store normally so that it can show up in the list of "Purchased". Then you know what to do.
