Link from Google sending me to weird sites

no but google chrome is much more secure than firefox and i use that browser and never experienced those problems you have, you should probably install anti-virus software such as avast, ad-aware and zone-alarm. I use all of those and they are free :D

The rocketking
Thanks a lot. I have the most up to date paid for subscription software Sophos and it updates everytime I am on line and has blocked one of these websites.
The problem is how can a chess.com link from searching chess on google lead to clicking the link and being diverted.
I have deleted cookies, history, etc and it still happens.
Thanks again for your help and I will check another spyware search
@pins2pins:
I think that when you search on Google, you just select the wrong link. There are ads on the top of the page and sometimes on the bottom. You may just had clicked there, this has also happened to me a few times. You must click where the real link is, which is where the chess.com is. An easier way is to just type chess.com in the address box.

Assuming you're not just clicking on the wrong links, it sounds like you might actually have some kind of Google redirect malware. Maybe you should try something like Malwarebytes ( http://www.malwarebytes.org/ ). If that can't fix it, then go to http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/ and look around for something else that might work.

Where did you get that idea? There's nothing wrong with Firefox security. As far as I'm concerned, Firefox security is just as good, if not better than Google Chrome's security.

Escherehcsa,
thanks. I will try that.
Yes, I am not just clicking the wrong link.
It's definitely a redirect Malware but where can it sit in my computer when I scan and remove malware everytime?

Malware is getting sneakier these days. Now they can often dig down and hide deep in your system. Not all antivirus/malware software can remove these things, and it can sometimes be difficult to remove this stuff. (Better to not get it in the first place. )
I'd first try Malwarebytes. If that doesn't work, I'd go to bleepingcomputer.com and try some programs like AdwCleaner, SUPERAntiSpyware, or ComboFix. Except for Malwarebytes, I haven't actually tried any of these programs, so no guarantees.
Here's a link to a Chess.com thread where a guy with Combofix experience gives some tips on using Combofix (username rtr1129):

Here are the links to the other programs:

Good luck!

Oh, one easy thing you could try first before all of the malware removal programs is to disable all of your browser's extensions and plugins to see if the problem goes away. If so, then enable the extensions and plugins one by one to see which one is causing the problem.

Thanks for both suggestions. i will try disabling add ons first and then use the malware removal software

I have just noticed, this happens with other google searches on Google Chrome and not internet explorer
Someone mentioned that I should disable add ons
How do I do that on Google Chrome?
I have deleted history, etc.

Google Chrome isn't my primary browser, but maybe I can help.
Extensions are easy to find: Click on the "Customize and control" button on the upper right corner. Then "settings", "Extensions".
Plugins are harder to find (one of the several reasons I'm not a big fan of Chrome; but Chrome is MUCH better than Internet Explorer, btw):
Click on the "Customize and control" button on the upper right corner. Then "settings", then "Show advanced settings" (at the bottom of the page). Then, under Privacy settings, click on the "Content settings" button. Then under "Plugins", click on "Disable individual plugins...".

Thanks a lot
I have disabled all extensions and the searched link still keeps getting hijacked by Twenga from time to time

OK, it looks like you'll have to go the route of trying Malwarebytes first, then the other stuff in Post #8. Good luck!
P.S. Not to be too indelicate, but your troubleshooting seems to be going at a glacial pace. I would have been hip deep in this stuff on day one. The longer this stuff is on your system, the more damage it can do.

Escherehcse
Thanks & agreed.
I will try and sort this out in one day today
Well, I don't think you have to get it all done in one day. (If you have to use Combofix, it might take some time to get familiar with it.) Just try not to take months.

^This advice!!
I have used bleepingcomputer's advice a couple of times before on my mum's computer (she is good at getting viruses and malware...). I managed to get her computer from being very slow and extremely hijacked to a normal running machine again... Only to later get another phone call a couple of weeks later...

thx for the comments.
i agree, i should't leave such malware in my system for months.
i just stopped using chrome because on ie, this never happened.
Chrome is faster on chess.com so i have to sort it out.
Speaking of Speed and slow chess connection, the irony of what's just happened
i just beat a 1500 player 10-8 at 3 mins chess, and he accused me of time cheating when in fact he won 6 out of the first 8 games won on time as opposed to 2 out of my 10 games.

Google Chrome more secure that Firefox? That's a laugh. Chrome was designed to spy on you and is a known attack vector favored by bad guys and the NSA alike.
The Chromium browser (on which Chrome is based) is a tad more secure, and so is Aviator-a reworked version of Chrome.
Firefox is probably the slowest browser and least reliable browser on the planet right now (takes 3-5 minutes to just to get to the gmail log in screen) and I have zero respect for a company that does not respect the US Constitution/1st Amendment etc. However, Firefox does have some cool add ons like noscript that make it a tad safer than IE or Chrome but after what Mozilla did to their CEO I would never pay for a Mozilla product, and I only use Firefox when I'm on someone else's computer that doesn't have better alternatives installed.
Yeah, that little episode with the CEO was unsettling to me too, but I didn't know of any better choice than Firefox. So what's your fav browser for someone who isn't a super techie? (I'll twiddle with things if I have to, but I'd prefer that software just work effortlessly.)
