Little Bombs

Hi there, I have a strange question, but recently I have lost a few games because for some reason I cannot click on my pieces mid-game because whenever I do, little cartoon bombs appear, and when I click on the bomb again it explodes. Do I have some setting on or something? I have attached a picture of what the bomb looks like below. Please help

Perhaps try clearing your browser cache.  Instructions for several browsers can be found here: https://support.chess.com/category/665-technical-issues

There's a new feature, which is in beta and may be available on a subset of members, that if you are holding down certain keys on your keyboard and click a square, you'll get a emoji.

If you're not holding down any keys, make sure you don't have any plugins that might be interfering with site code.

I have had same thing happen to me. The bombs lock your pieces and you cannot move them. I have lost couple of games like this. Is this a hack?

There isn't a hack. The emojis are a new feature that allows the placement of emojis on the screen by holding down certain keys and left-clicking pieces and squares.

What browser and version are you on? Do you have anything installed that might be interfering with scripts? Also, under Board and Pieces in your settings, what is your Animation Type?

Im updated version of Chrome. Your peices are locked. Your positing that the other player is dropping emojis on my critical peices. Is there a way to get rid of them?

Your opponent can't do that, it is a client side issue. If you mention your settings, I could see if I can recreate.

Hi startarget:  It sounds like one of the old games on the computer "Minefield" ? You clicked on surrounding squares and it helped you to know if in danger, if that square was a mine, it blew up! game over!  I have had nothing like that on my screen, Good Luck?

Are you playing Stratego?

Forget this is supposed to be a chess site and just enjoy the new enhancement.

Hi, You might have moved into a variation called Nuke Chess, I shared an E-Mail with a explanation about a bomb carrying chess piece? Good luck, watch out for the "FALL OUT"! Bill

This happened to me today as well.  I was in the middle of a game and clicked shift-control-f to hide the address bar.  After doing that clicking on any square displayed the bomb.  I then hit shift-control-f again to go back to showing the address bar and the problem went away.  I normally always start my games with the address bar already hidden and never had a problem.  I'm using the most recent version of Chrome on a Macbook Pro.

I noted the reference to "STRATEGO" (Batgirl) .. Is that a game available on  the Internet? I remember that name from a board game that was prior to PCs  .. fun game, similar to chess! .. as I recall?

Same problem here. shift-control-f solved for me. Thanks for the tip!
