Lost rating points because my opponent abandoned the game

As the title says, I recently played a game where my opponent left the game just after a few moves. While I was waiting for their clock to run out, the game ended and I  lost rating points. My internet connection was stable then, so there was no way I got disconnected. Is this a glitch? Is there any way to fix this?

Sorry to say, but the servers thought that you were the one who disconnected/ lost your connection.

When you lose your connection, you are still looking at your computer or device but it can't let you know when your opponent has moved. Therefore, you sit there, blissfully unaware that the time available to you is ticking down.

There is no obvious way to fix this problem. Fortunately, it doesn't happen very often to people with reliable wired connections.

I see that this has happened to you 117 times over your nearly 10,000 games and that you won by the disconnection of your opponent 105 times, so it has largely balanced out.

It was my opponent's move when this happened, and it was their clock which was running out. Also, I made the last move in the game.

you THINK you made the last move, but as you disconnected and didn't know it, you didn't see that your opponent had moved. It sucks.

Usually, I just reload the page just to check, if my opponent seems to be taking an unusually long amount of time to move
