Major Bug with Time

Sort:
Corthala

I just played a 10 minute Blitz game and encountered a major bug with the time.. I was up on time versus my opponent and he somehow gained time on the last few moves. He was down to 5 seconds then it would glitch out and he miraculously gained 15 seconds and somehow ended up winning on time himself. The whole time I was up about 20-25 seconds on him then out of nowhere I lose on time.

What is going on here? Can I ammend the loss or what?

I have same problem... in 1min matches my time decreases and adds to my opponent..! his time increases..!

Noyablackmind

what should I do??! I loss matches unfair!!!

The server keeps track of the official times and when your opponent's moves are transmitted to you the site will update the clocks to the correct times.

Read the post that Martin added.

You may have an excellent local connection but your moves have to make it all the way from Iran. That probably means many server hops between you and California.

The adjustments that chess.com makes help to insure a fair game.

Most people with bad lag and frequent lag adjustments will learn to avoid bullet chess or any game where the adjustments can reverse the apparent result.

Some people take longer to learn this than others.

I have the same problem, it seems to happen always when I am under 20 seconds ( on a

3 min game)

Well now, having read the above, you know that it is nothing to worry about.

If you have a bad connection, chess.com has added some options that may help. Look at the connections tab in live chess settings.

I am sure that the problem has nothing to do with a lag.
I played a 5 min game yesterday with a chronometer next to me, and I had the same problem that I described above ( my time jumped from around 20 seconds to 0 right after my opponent's last move.
and the calculation of my chronometer minus  my opponent's time left , didn't equal to 10 minutes

sorry, I ment to write :
"the calculation of my chronometer *PLUS*  my opponent's time left" didn't equal to 10 minutes

The game lists each move timestamp in the website archives. Those are the official Live server calculations for the time for each move. You can verify that those times add up correctly.

Got it - the counter showing my opponent counting down is not real time. It is the time since my move ended. Which then get's corrected to true time after the move. Say they have a 1 sec lag until seeing my move, take 1 second to move, and then another second lag until I see it. My opponent clock has counted down 3 seconds when I see them move. At the same moment the 1+1=2 second lag is added back to the opponent's time.

And I am sure you clearly did not understand the problem at all. Please go read the explanations above, it's not that complicated.

i am experiencing this too.  was having fun playing till i encountered like 3 or 4 games in a row where i'd notice players times would not go down, and my time is always dropping.  i'd have 30 seconds up on them, not be taking anymore time to move than they were, and all of a sudden, i have 1 minute and they have 2.30 minutes...when the a move or two before, i had 2.30 and they were down to 1.50 minutes.

i just posted a thread about it because i played a 1 minute game where the guy had .1 seconds and kept repeating a move, and never lost because he kept regaining time while my time just dropped...

what happens is they make their move but the server hasn't sent you the information yet, and so your time has already started going down before you even see their move.  people then exploit this glitch.

then you get bans because the games keeps setting you up with the players and you abort them because who wants to play the same cheater again?  so you get punished by a fair play policy that doesn't recognize cheating.

Oops. Threads referring to cheating will be closed.

Before it is closed, let me just say you are wrong. The fact that your continued aborts led to you being  put into a restricted group and then you chose to continue aborting, instead of playing the games that come up, mean that you will stay in that group for as long as you refuse to change your behavior.

oh is this an admin?  another tool that doesn't actually play but sits around and pretend he is right about everything?
