Making opponent wait long when losing

Hi, I apologize if this is covered elsewhere. Too many times now has my opponent stopped playing when they are losing, only to make me wait the rest of their time left (sometimes even 5+ minutes). I end up resigning sometimes simply so I don't have to wait that long. Please do something or I can imagine players, including myself, will stop playing. Someone should automatically have to resign if they are inactive for more than a minute

5 minutes is a "long time"?

Unless you know the reason why your opponent hasnt moved, why should they only have 1 minute to make a move?

And yes...this has been asked to death.

Yeah I can imagine it's been asked haha just didn't know where to look. 5 mins can be a long time especially when you have to keep checking back in case they moved...

Even if they highlight a piece or something the 1 min timer could stop. Anything to make sure they're at least there. Why punish someone for winning?

I think we can agree on the following:

Its rude.

It can be frustrating.

Its a symptom of online chess.

But on the flipside:

We dont know the reason the opponent hasnt moved.  And its not fair to agree to a game with a certain time limit, and then think we can dictate how long our opponent gets to move.

To save time, you can do a search on what you want to ask.

I completely agree. But something like highlighting a piece doesn't mean they're forced to move. It'll just make sure they're there and I can imagine a lot less people will abandon games and make opponents wait if they have to wait themselves.

Make a premove and do other things like:

Go to kitchen, WC , answer phone, or browse internet. Is not like you are forced to wait and do nothing meanwhile.

I think if you close the chess.com app, after 30 seconds you will lose automatically. So, unless you're playing from PC there is no way to kill that time. Yesterday, someone made me wait 20 minutes.

Even though they wait if they are losing, I have anxiety that if I go away from the PC to kill the time and when I come back to check. I would lose the game because they moved with some time on the clock and with me afk, I would lose to time.
