Hey Erik great job on the site.  Just something i wanted you to know.

My phone is basically all touch screen (no number or letter keys).  I am able to download the chess.com app but once i get to the log in screen it doesn't respond to the touch screen at all, so i'm unable to input a username or password.  If this something with a phone setting, or is this something with the app?

Anybody with an iphone able to use their touchscreen to enter their username/password?

Flanne

I think its a combination between the mobile app and the java on your device. If the on device java doesn't map touch input to 'regular' input the app wont work.

erik

ah. iphone actually doesn't officially support java :) not sure how you can even see it!

I don't have an iphone, but i do have the instinct, which is all touchscreen.  The app doesn't respond to touchscreen, so i'm stuck with blank username/pwd fields, unabling me to log in mobile style.  I'm guessing this is something that can't be corrected right away.  I just wanted to bring it to your attention.

i get an odd error - "there is no application associated with chess.com, run the application first then open this file from within the application"

for some reason my windows mobile browser won't recognize that this is a downloadable file, and only wants to execute it.  if i find a solution, i'll post it.

(using an htc touch pro with windows mobile and opera mobile browser)

would it be possible to offer the executable up as a regular downloadable file, so i can drop it on my  phone over a regular usb connection, and install it that way?

Chess.com Mobile Chess

you need to have Java 2 support for it to work...

Awgree

This might be outside the zone of chess.com support, but where do I get Java 2 for Sprint Instinct?

Flanne

For most phones java 2 is built in. If the Sprint Instinct does not come with it I dont know where you can get it.

Hi, I use a sciphone ( cloned iphone ) but it does have Java and I did download the mobile chess app. I get only who I'm playing and the time left, and at the bottom left corner my menu does NOT respond and sometimes refresh on the bottom right will respond, but I can NEVER get the board to display to make a move. I always have to go back to my PC to make and submit my move. Is there anyone who had the same problem able to give some advice. I can log in using the touch screen. This phone is very much like the iphone and is full touch screen but like I said it will respond when logging in.

I have an LG Vu and I'm not sure if this is phone-specific or not, but any apps that were not originally designed for touchscreen phones still work, but there are generic "up, down, left, right, OK, and function" buttons that show up on the bottom 25% of the screen.  The buttons look exactly the same regardless of application, from Chess.com's mobile chess to Tiger Woods golf.  So this is either phone specific or a feature of Java?  So I can use Mobile chess but I must click on those imaginary arrow keys on the screen to move my cursor rather than simply clicking and dragging pieces.  I'm sorry if this is no help...

Flanne

The mobile app does not support pure touch screen phones. Only touch screen phones that has similar functionality to what Duane_Kessler describes and that is phone specific.
