Online indicator

Hi. I use the chess.com iphone app and there was an update installed a couple of days ago. Since the update the only way to see if anyone is currently online is if they are in your friend list. In game online indicators seem to have disappeared completely, friend or no friend. Any info on this please?

I’m having the same issue and looked for others posts but didn’t find yours before I made my own post about it here. I’m having the same problem. It actually happened two days ago when their update went live but it messed it up even before I updated the app itself, which I just now did trying to fix the problem. It didn’t, lol

+1 no more online indicators

They are still visible within the Friends list and also within current Messages list but NOT within current games list. Annoying to have to keep checking a separate list and only works for friends anyway.

The green online indicator is broken. I’m on iphone ios 14.7.1. It stopped appearing about 10 days ago. Occasionally i see a green dot on the friends page but even that is not consistent. Also the time since the friend was online is not correct. For example, it will show a friend online but a few minutes later say they haven’t been online for hours.  It seemed to happen when it was changed from a square to a dot. I think it may be related to the fact that it’s not detecting when people are online but is also strange that it never ever shows in the game. That was the best feature! Please fix it!!

Same here. Just started with the latest app update. No more online indicators on my iPad.

whenever i want to play, the message " the rating flag required appears and i cannot play. how can I fix the problem?

 

Leave off ! I am convinced some players deliberately wait for opponents to log off before playing there move.

I am genuinely interested to know if this is a problem and why anyone would do this deliberately, also what advantage they may gain from doing it. Is it just to be awkward and annoy people or could it be classed as a dubious tactic?

I have slightly changed my thoughts on this and maybe it is enough to know the online status just of friends and people you have in current messages list, which is currently the case. 

It would be interesting to have a response from a chess.com  mod to hear what the official line is on this online indicator issue.

I may only play 1 / 3 day matches, but I have been really wound up by players who are “ online” then disappear before miraculously playing there move within seconds of me giving up waiting. So yes, I too am pleased the indicator has gone but that is just from my point of view. Obviously accept that for many it’s maybe a loss for them.

Make it a toggle maybe for others to see your status if you wish?  I liked it so I knew if I should wait around or not, though now that I think about it, it just led me to sit and wait around for no reason half the time.  I’m now in the camp to leave it off!

I’m happy to know that it’s not just me. All my chess friends are on android and they did have status indicator when I asked some time ago. I wish it worked the same way throughout all platforms.

I use the online app on my Safari mac browser, not a downloaded one. I was able to see my buddy's online status in messages (we have almost 6 months of messages... but not "friends" yet. As of last night I was able to see his online status but not today. I'm guessing this is related to the app update from 2 days ago...they likely updated the online desktop version too.  

Does chess.com engage in the forum or is it just users? Either way, evidentially, it’s been far too long to still not have any clarification anywhere I look (not just forum). Leads me to think the forum is for users and this “category” is for users to help users. Having said that, I think everyone here should navigate to the “help” function to submit feedback for the return of the indicator so at least we know it will be acknowledged by numerous users. Who knows, maybe they haven’t a clue! Odd to remove it without saying anything. And if no one has actually submitted a ticket for the issue and looked to the forums help section instead.. An echo chamber that I am unlocking us from lol. Now flock to the help button my friends! Run, be free! But for real if you come back here after reading this, you blunder.

Здравствуйте!!! вчера на время закрытия рейтинга в 22.00 по мкс я (barc101) был на 5 месте в дивизионе, также на 5 месте в 23.00 мск. А сегодня с утра почему то на 6 месте. Ночью тоже можно было играть??? на рейтинг в дивизионе? 

Nah no playing at night allowed bruv, someone’s cheating, report them! (And while you’re at it, tell them you didn’t know cause the online indicator is broken) 👀
