Open Challenges on Mobile App

On the desktop version of the site, you can click on play - open challenges, and you can see lots of open live chess challenges at different rating levels and time controls (on a chart) that you can click on to accept.

Can I view open challenges in a similar way (or in any way at all) on the phone app? I can only see open daily challenges, not live.

Thank you!

PS. I tried logging into the website version on my phones internet (rather than the app) and I could see the challenges but I couldn’t click on them or accept them...

Most live challenges are accepted too quickly, so I think that is why they don't show in the app.

@Martin_Stahl I don’t think that’s what it is. I’m having the same exact problem as him. On the browser, I’m able to see various open challenges but on the app, I only see a few challenges that are either daily or longer. And this is all at the same too so I know there’s some kind of difference with the open challenges you can see on the browser versus what you can see on the app. It’s a bit frustrating really.

I just updated to the newest Android app on beta yesterday, and there isn't a seek graph for Daily or Live.

But I still think, due to the fact that most live challenges are quickly paired, that it was designed not to show them at all. Probably to save the number of status updates and limit players accepting an open challenge that had already been filled but not updated. Moreso on the former than the latter, in my thought

me too .. this sucks

trying to play rapid, 10 2, with a modest rating restriction; I can show you that *my* open challenge is not getting filled very quickly at all... even 5 minutes is not enough

This issue reappeared again with the latest Android update. No open challenges (not mine and not others) in the app any more. They used to be in the Android app under play.

Can you please restore this function?

New user here. I can see challenges in the app, but only daily games. And if I click "accept", they simply disappear - there is no message saying I was too slow (or any other message). Is there a point to showing open challenges in the app if I can't accept them?

I have challenged a friend. The challenge shows up in the desktop version of chess.com on the Home screen. It is nowhere to be seen in the Andoid app. This is NOT a case of "Most live challenges are accepted too quickly, so I think that is why they don't show in the app."

How do I get to this game in Android?

Challenges received show under alerts in the app, though sent ones don't.

Hey all - i know this is an old thread but as a new user i was suffering the same and google lead me here. Challenges both given and received were not visible in the app (android) but were visible on the PC browser. for me, the trick was to close the app (force close) on my phone and reopen it. once i did that the challenges appeared in the app.

How does one navigate to see the list of open challenges in the Android app? After pressing play, I am not seeing anything that would sound like "open challenges" or "seek graph". Thanks!

On the iOS app:

Play > More > Custom
Then you'll see an "Open Challenges" tab.

The app only gives a list of daily challenges, not a seek graph for live challenges.

I assume the Android app is similar.

Thanks, yes, it works the same way in the Android app (shows only daily challenges), and I was looking for live challenges specifically, so does not really solve my "problem". I wonder if (as a workaround) I start a game in the browser from the live challenges graph, whether the browser app would pick it up and I could continue playing from there (like in some "other chess playing platforms", where the "lobby" is also missing in the app), or it would penalize me for abandoning it in the browser ...

I see you play mostly 3+1 games which is not currently a "standard" time control on chess.com. If you played 3+2 instead, you could create the challenges on the app.

I am happy with either 3+2 or 3+1 (that just happens to be a Titled Tuesday format thus all 3+1 games that you see in my history), and there is no problem getting those games. However it is much harder finding rapid or slower games at >2100 levels and that's where I thought having a "Seek Graph" or "Lobby" could be helpful in the app.

Martin_Stahl

Most live games are paired relatively quickly so having the option in the apps would likely rarely have any games.

It used to be possible to switch between the app and website and I think it used to work the other way as well, but I'm not sure if that works anymore.

ChessFanNM

I am still a little fuzzy on why it makes sense to show those same offers in the web version, but not in the app? Unless perhaps the app has refresh issues that can't be fixed because "computer says 'no' ".
Thanks for the note about switching, maybe I'll try it out someday.

alexmarc_p

I try to open "open challenges" in the app but since two days I get this "expected an int path was NULL at path $.data[99].oppenent_rating. Try Again"

Can anyone explain?
