Kinda sucks. 10 minutes left.
Guy showed back up with 3 minutes left on his time. I wonder if he found a way to cheat the system. Very weird.
he did abandon it. If you abandoned your child when they are 2, but came back when they were 15 it would certainly be classed as abandonment
On this board https://www.chess.com/live#g=1594474642, my opponent has disconnected by I am having to sit here until his time runs out. Can someone please help? I don't want to sit for 20 minutes.
You would be sitting there if you were still playing correct?
Maybe he had something urgent he had to attend to. Maybe his mom called him. Maybe he had to run to the toilet and couldn't get off it for awhile. Whatever. When you play a 30 minute game you agree that your opponent gets 30 minutes to use however. If he times out then he times out and you get the win.
Well anyway I used to play 30 minutes but 15/10 is much better I gave up blitz 10 minutes all the way.
Please get a grip of reality. You know it makes sense.
You are saying 'abandon' can not define cases where the abandoner returns?
And if we are talking about reality, look at what Thatcher done
You better play 15/10 Darth
Can someone explain to me the 15/10 games? I've never played because it makes no sense to me. I tend to play 10 minute games.
A cheap trick (Live at Budokan) I have seen opponents do when they are losing in a 30 minute game is just let the time run. I had to sit there, waiting, and noticed they made a move just before time ran out. I'm sure the logic is that, if YOU abandoned the game, they would get the win when your time ran out after they make a last minute move. I don't see anything you can do except block people who use such tactics so you don't end up playing them again.

You could block them after the fact. Or you could pay attention to the game enough to see when your own clock starts moving. You have options.
Maybe I didn't explain this well. Let me try again.I don't mind if someone takes 20 minutes to make a move. I wouldn't play long time limits is I cared about that. This, however, was a glitch. He did not just walk away and leave the timer running. He disconnected. The server did the usual three minute countdown and then nothing happened. The guy reconnected with three minutes left. The system should have marked the game as abandoned way before then.
No. I sat there until time ran out. He was disconnected for a very long time. The system went through the disconnect count down. It just failed to mark the game as abandoned when it ran out.

Maybe your opponent abandoned the game and you walked away not knowing that person would be connected again. So it marked you being timed out when the other person came on to make the continuing move.
I won on time actually. His "tactic" did not work. I posted originally right after the three minute countdown ended hoping someone would see it and fix i. He had over twenty minutes left on the clock. I was surprised when he reconnected with 3:00 left.

That you say the disconnect timer counted down, but did not award you the win means that it's probably a site glitch as well as something beyond your opponent's control (such as his internet connection going out) rather than a deliberate "tactic" on his part.
