Picking a side in daily game with custom opening

Hi all,

Is there a way of playing a side while picking a specific opening in a daily game? I want to practice a specific opening but in most games I seem to play the opposite colour! Whilst useful, I would like to choose what side I play in a particular opening.  I couldn't see an option in the challenge menu. Is this possible?

Under Custom Challenge click the Options link. You want the Setup option. You can use Book Opening or Custom FEN.

If you want to choose your starting color, it has to be unrated.

Thanks - got that. But it seems to randomise which side I play in that position.  I want to play the white side of 1c4 e5 but 80% of the games I've created I've started as black.

Are you playing unrated and specifically setting the color you play as?

No - rated. But for me there is no option to set colour.

Has to be unrated to choose colour.

Ahhhh. Thanks!

The main problem is that playing only with one color could have a rating advantage so the site doesn't allow rated games where you choose which side to play. Also, it would be possible to set up winning positions and farm rating that way (assuming one didn't mess up).

If you put a winning position on the board then they could just abort the game.

It may not be clear the position is winning. That said, if the goal is training, it really shouldn't matter the game is not rated.

In a sense it doesn't matter, but what sort of opponent can you get playing unrated?

You can try and find sparring partners on the forums.

Probably as many as you can starting from a custom position.
