Puzzle Rush, High Score not updating

Sort:

I got a 50 in Puzzle Rush - Survival, yet my high score in my profile does not reflect that. It also shows that I scored 50 in my puzzle history timeline. Is this common? How can I get it fixed?...I worked toward a 50 for years. It means a lot to me.

Unfortunately, the archives don't show that attempt, so I'm not sure it can be verified. I don't believe it can be modified either, but you could check with support to be sure: https://support.chess.com/article/346-contact-us

Hi there, I am also experiencing a similar issue! Scored 50 on puzzle rush last week and it didn't update for me, and now this morning I scored 52 and the same thing happened. It's not an issue at all - just curious as to why this is the case! Thanks

I've had the same problem. I scored 53 but it's still showing my last score of 48. I contacted support and they replied last week. They told me they were aware of the problem and were working on fixing it. I took a screenshot of my highest score which I could send to them.

I worked really hard trying to improve my score so am disappointed it's not showing. Hopefully they will have it fixed soon.

@therealmarlowe I did the same thing.  Screenshot it because I was so proud, and luckily I did because I sent it as an attachment in my message to the site.  Though, in the archives for the date I played it, it does still show I have a 50 puzzle run.  It has since updated, however, it has not when looking at my score in the "Leaderboard".  Strange.

It still hasn't updated for me. Since then I scored 58 at Puzzle Rush Survival. I took a screenshot (below). It's still not updated on my profile. Still shows my best survival as 48 which was ages ago. I'm going to stop doing the Puzzle Rush survival until this is sorted. You would think they would have sorted this by now.

@therealmarlowe I have a related question for you.  Do you, or have you in the past, ever had difficulty applying your chess puzzle skills to actual games?   When I'm doing a puzzle, I can be fairly successful in choosing the best move when I know that there is a best move to look for and I know that in most cases, when I spot it, I will know it. But in a game, the board has not been set up in such a way that there is an identifiable best move to look for.  So the little bit of puzzle skills I've developed are very difficult for me to translate into games.  Can you relate, and if so, how do you overcome that?

Good question. When I'm playing a game of chess I often look at certain positions as if they were a puzzle where, with me to play, there is a winning idea. I think that helps me focus more on the position. But I don't know, of course, that there is a winning combination of moves. That's why playing games of chess is harder than solving puzzles as you never know when there is a winning combination in your own games.  One thing that doing puzzles has taught me is to calculate more clearly. So I think doing lots of puzzles (especially hard puzzles) can improve your chess playing.  I always analyse my games with Stockfish after to find improvements. Often I know that I will have missed a winning combination of moves in my play so I'm keen to see how I could have played better.  So I think doing chess puzzles helps improve your chess. Especially if you tackle hard and longer puzzles. And when you play a game of chess you can think at certain points of the game that you are looking at a chess puzzle. You might instinctively feel that there are a series of moves at such a position that will give you a big advantage. Like tactics and threats of mate. Also when you do chess puzzles you keep seeing familiar themes and ideas and "tricks" that you can then apply to your games when you play chess.

You're welcome. Good luck with your chess.  It's such an amazing game.

I emailed Devon from support about whether the update will be soon and received a reply from Milica who has sent a ticket to the development team. I've also asked if someone from chess. com can communicate in this forum about the problem. I've also asked why occasional untitled players do have their scores over 50 appear on global and friend scoreboards and homescreens as it might be something we can replicate before the update.

The bug still isn't fixed.

It seems like anything over 49 won't show at the moment if you're not a titled player, neither in the puzzle leaderboards nor in your profile's personal best.

This bug is probably a few months old at most since I've seen many untitled players whose personal best do appear correctly even if its 50 or above, so this is a recent bug.

Someone mentioned earlier that it might be related to the time it took you, that it should be under 1 hour. I doubt that is the case, as the world record is 610, there is no way that person did it in under 1 hour ^^

@Zafuman "... as the world record is 610, there is no way that person did it in under 1 hour ."  Lol! Fair point!

Perhaps they're afraid of really high scorers like that topping the leaderboard everyday. I asked one person in the forum who scored over 300 whether there was memorisation involved but didn't get a reply. The pool of puzzles must get really small above say 3500+ so anyone capable of getting to that level might be tempted to memorise solutions.

It would be nice if the development team commented in one of the many forum discussions on this topic whether they intend to correct the problem. For me personally if they changed the ceiling from 50 to 60 I would be very happy as I can't imagine ever getting above 60.

Exactly what happened to me when I got 52 in survival for my first time ever. Glad I also had a screenshot as proof.

In survival mode puzzles shouldn't be chosen based soley on their rating but also by their percentage pass rate. A puzzle rated only 1000 with 8 moves and a really hard final move might have a pass rate of 2%. That final move might be just as difficult as a problem rated 3500. Increasing the pool of puzzles given like this would make it harder to memorise solutions.

I'd already sent this photo to admin but have sent it again asking for my high score to appear on my homescreen as 55.

You also had the display bug stuck at 49?

Right now your PB in your profile displays 54, which means you didn't have the bug for that one, even though you're not titled. Do you remember when that 54 attempt was?

That would be very weird for them to lock the PBs at 49, just because they are afraid that some people will get high scores by memorizing puzzles.

On top of that, it's not like titled players wouldn't abuse this if it was possible, since ultimately memorizing high elo puzzles is not cheating, it's not against the rules.

In addition, even if that was the case, they would probably lock it at 70 or something, 50 seems way too early because it's actually not that hard for many untitled players to reach 50 legitimately.

For me all clues point towards it simply being a bug. However if it was intentional, then I have to say the logic behind it seems very shaky at best ^^
