So your complaint is that your opponent is using their time, and vacation?
So, whats the point of a "report" feature if nothing ever happens when you report someone?

My complaint is that my opponent is repeatedly using vacation mode to stall the game. As I stated, they've "gone on vacation" 5 or 6 times now. Each time, their timer runs to almost nothing, then they go on vacation. This game has been going on for ~6 weeks, and we're on the 34th move. Does that not seem excessive?

Well he is winning, so i would assume he wants to take his time. He is not "stalling" for the sake of dragging out a losing game. If it bothers you, you can always resign.

You must be new to chess, or new to daily chess. These games can take years to play.

I've been playing the same 24 hr game with this individual for probably >3 weeks now. They make one or two moves, then let their timer get all the down to an hour or less, then go on vacation. They've done this 5 or 6 times now, and after the second one I started reporting them for stalling/unsportsmanlike behavior. I've reported this individual at least 4 or 5 times by now, and yet nothing happens.
If I wanted to play a weekly game, I would have started a weekly game. What good is a report function if nobody is going to investigate the reports?
Edit; I just went and looked, we started this game January 16. Almost 6 weeks ago. How is this allowed?
The site provides vacation and premium members get placed on vacation automatically when any of their games get low on time. The site will not action anyone for that unless they are using the feature to prolong a helplessly lost game.

" He is not "stalling" for the sake of dragging out a losing game."
Well, I guess we'll just agree to disagree on this one then. I don't see how you can possibly figure that this isn't a case of stalling. You point out that the other player is up on points, so they must not be stalling...But it's only this most recent vacation that they've been winning, the rest of them we've been even.
"You must be new to chess, or new to daily chess. These games can take years to play."
I'm not either of these things. I know it isn't some prolific number, but I've played >400 daily games on Chess.com, and not once have I encountered someone doing this. Most of my games are finished within a couple weeks, many of them in 3-4 days.
" If it bothers you, you can always resign."
Seems a pretty scummy tactic to just frustrate your opponent into quitting, and an equally scummy stance that chess.com would support that play style.

Its been explained multiple times. Youre choosing not to listen.

I didn't know that, thanks for the info.

@IMBacon
Nothing was explained, you merely gave me your opinion that the other player wasn't stalling. Then you insinuated that I must be new to chess, again because of your opinion. Then you offered me the sage advice of "If you don't like it, just quit!"
Of course, why didn't I think of that?
If you have nothing to add, and you're not going to try to inform me of things that I didn't know, kindly avoid responding in the first place.

Of my daily games, the longest running began on April 26 2018. We are at move 50 although this is 14 days per move. Why are you in a hurry to finish this game? Anyway, if you are irritated you have at least learnt to only play games where vacation is not permitted.

So, first off, I didn't know that I could choose to play games where vacation isn't permitted...I'll look into that, thank you.
To your question: I'm not in a hurry to finish the game, but if I start a game with a 24hr timer I do expect my opponent to make a move within 24 hours. Taking all/most of that 24 hrs is fine, but using vacation mode, multiple times, to get multiple days between moves just feels cheesy.

Additionally your opponent has only 20hrs of vacation time left out of the 3 months he began with. If it gets to zero he will lose on time if he doesn't move (remember to check in your settings that you will automatically claim a win on time).

You have been here over 2 years. You could have looked up the answer, but chose not to. Instead you decided to complain and report your opponent for using vacation in a winning game.
What have we learned from this?
1. Try and find the answer yourself.
2. Understand that daily chess can take years to finish a game.
3. Be patient.

Don't agree to a time format if you aren't willing to abide it.
whoa now, that makes too much sense.

Instead you decided to complain and report your opponent for using vacation in a winning game.
Reading comprehension isn't one of your strong suits is it?
Thanks so much for your informative and thought-out responses, you've really helped me understand this whole situation so much more clearly.

Bacon, feel free to just stop responding in this thread...you're not really adding anything valuable.
The mod above pointed out how the system works: If you're a premium member you get put on vacation automatically when your timer runs low. Makes sense, I didn't know that but I understand the thinking behind it. My question then becomes, if I start a game with a 24hr timer and then intentionally let my timer run out multiple times because I know I'll get put on vacation mode....that isn't really very sportsmanlike, is it?
I guess there's nothing really that can/will be done, it just kind of sucks that my only recourse is to wait for my opponent to run out of vacation time...

Depends...If you're going on vacation simply to drag out a game because you're losing? Then yes its wrong. If you're going on vacation because you want more time to study the position, then their is nothing wrong with that. If something happens where you cant get to the game, the auto vacation kicks in, which is part of the benefit of being a premium member.
But besides all that....let it go. So you didn't get some online rating points. Is it that important? Its an online rating. It does not define who or what you are as a person.

If you're going on vacation because you want more time to study the position, then their is nothing wrong with that.
Well, we'll have to agree to disagree again. In a 24 hour game, you have 24 hours to study your position and decide on your next move. If that's not enough time, then you shouldn't sign up for a 24 hr game in the first place...I don't think vacation mode was implemented so that we can take extra time to think about our position.
