Something fishy is going on with membership pricing.

So I decided to reupgrade to Gold after a short hiatus so I could benefit from the game analysis feature. I noticed on the Membership page that unlimited game reviews weren’t listed as a Gold perk on my account. I dug through the support documents and found that it is indeed still a Gold perk so I subscribed for 6.99 USD through the desktop site. Turns out the game review doesn’t work. It tells me that I have used up my free daily review and must upgrade to diamond.

The situation gets worse. I opened the mobile app on iOS and noticed that game review wouldn’t work there either. I also noticed that gold on the iOS app through Apple was still only 4.99 a month, not the 6.99 I paid. Usually app transactions charge more for Google and Apple’s royalties.

I thought something was up so I opened an incognito browser and made a new account through the website. Guess what? Gold on that account only cost 4.99 a month through the website AND it list game reviews as a perk.

The logical conclusion I came to is they are testing out a new membership system with increased prices and a shuffling around of the perks. If my account was randomly selected for this test I feel extremely deceived. I’d love to hear from someone with more information on this.

I’ve already issued a support ticket and am awaiting a response. Unfortunately, the more I dug into this, the more deceived I felt and now plan on requesting a refund.

EDIT: Also, just to clear some things up, I tried relogging and the beta option in settings. I have the other Gold perks like all bots unlocked and flair editing, just not the ability to analyze games or see accuracy ratings.

I would try clearing your browser cache.

If that doesn't work, wait until you hear from support to conclude anything. It's entirely possible that they will set things straight.  They aren't out to deceive you.

I’m doing my best to reserve judgement but it’s hard. You can see in the top image that Gold is 6.99 a month through the browser on this account and doesn’t have game reviews listed. In the middle image it is 5 dollars a month through the app and has analysis. The last image is a brand new account on the browser with 5 dollars a month and game reviews is listed as a perk. All of these were captured on my phone on the same network. I’m struggling to draw any other conclusion. Also I tried clearing cache and hard refreshing as well as checking through the app and on a separate PC.

There's nothing wrong.

Any specific member may get offered a different combination of features. So, you get what is listed when signed into your account and check the features. If you have specific questions about what is being offered, you'll have ask support.

Also, I believe there have been pricing changes.

It sure seems like there is. I used to get game reviews with Gold, and according to https://support.chess.com/article/1363-what-does-each-level-of-membership-get-me, Gold should still give them. It's incredibly deceptive to charge certain people more (in the same geographical area) and remove features from certain tiers.

If you get what's offered on the following page when signed in when you sign up for the premium, that's not deceptive.  You should be getting what you're offered at the price offered.

However, it can be confusing, when that doesn't match the help articles. Though, when the site has changed, existing premium members get grandfathered in to the features they signed up for.

Thank you Chess.Com for "Grandfathering" us old time Premium Members with current pricing.  Way to go! Much appreciated!

For the cost of a movie ticket, you get unlimited access to entertainment all month. I don't think that's unreasonable. It's the awards bugs that annoy me more.

I gave out thousands of dollars buying people Memberships.

You'd think as a thank you I would receive one from chess.com.

I have asked and explained many a time.

Never got one. True story. : (((
