I don’t get it, I’m using the best provider in Indonesia and signal is good (3-4 bars), using MiFi connected to 2 cell phones. No chats in this stupid app and some chats via WA in other phone that would take less than a Kilobytes for text messages. I’d like to know how many Terrabytes for each move on chess.com need to be transfered between players? I think you guys need to rent better and faster server. I lost because disconnection or running out of time because each move I made confirmed for 10 second (not included with the time I took to think on the moves).

There are a lot of things that can cause lag and disconnects, from the client side to any of the connections between the client and the chess.com servers. The site servers are just a small part of that and most members play with no issues.

Same here... I lost connection even though the wifi router is giving me full signal and a speed test gives me a respectable 12mbps

I'm starting to hate this app. Sometimes, it will say the I've disconnected from a match even though I'm actively playing said match and there is nothing wrong with my internet connection (Wi-Fi). It say "Reconnecting. Auto-resign in (countdown)" for no reason. I am so upset right now. I could be winning a match and automatically lose it because of this annoying bug. Is anyone else experiencing this problem?

very crazyyyy... i have been disconnected soooooooooooooooooo many time. my internet is stable. all gadgets/lap[top are working fine except chess.com that disconnects in the middle of the game especially when I am winning already. p[lease help fix this issue! again I have a very very stable fiber optic internet!

Your local connection is only part of the connection. If there is an issue between you and the Live server, there isn't much the site can do. It is also possible that shared data on your network segment can cause issues.

When I've played on my connection in the past and my kids were streaming things, the connection got really laggy.

Iam having the same disconnect issue and  losing unjust points. There must be some way of distinguishing a chess server disconnect that does not penalize you. Harsh to say you have abandoned a game when it's not your fault. Seems strange really that I have never had this issue before they decided to introduce extra analysis features, which may be causing a strain/bugs on their software. My rating should be 1600-1700 but now a good 100 points below where it should be because of these random disconnects! Very annoying and extremely frustrating!

I just played a game and I just got auto disconnected. for that, it we declared a lost. I'm really upset about it because it is well known, opponents uses app or software to auto disconnect the other person. this has been going on for years and I am surprise no one can fix it. I shouldn't have to be penalize because my opponent decided to auto disconnect the other player. it should be a least a draw. unacceptable. :(

I love how when people lose due to their internet disconnecting, they assume that their opponent "hacks" them and makes them disconnect.

The app has been freezing or locking up lately. I use the iPad. Recently had a game in a winning position, meh win no win doesn’t really matter. Point is the app froze, and couldn’t make it move at all. Clocks stopped, at least I thought they had. Tried selecting anything to “wake” it up. Finally offered a draw and it woke up, and found my clock had continued to run. Just wondering if this is the same problem. I really appreciate the app and chess.com but it can get under one’s skin a bit. And no, the standard “your connection” this or that isn’t the answer to every problem. Neither is “someone’s hacking me.”  What is the solution?

server lag

or disconnection, one of the two

I’m getting the same problem. Very random but has ruined a few games. Ruined one today when I was a few moves off CM with 19secs to go! Just froze!  It’s not my internet but clearly to do with chess.com server. Disappointing to see it is affecting lots of people as it suggests investing in the server side of things isn’t happening.

More and more people are playing due to quarantining. Almost everything on line is over burdened. Yes, it’s frustrating sometimes, but beats suiting up with masks, hand sanitizer, and rubber gloves just to buy another 144 rolls of toilet paper you wont need until 2021. It’s okay folks.

The site has been working on improving things, but the site has received two years of projected growth in less than three months.

They have been improving the hardware, and updating server code to be more robust, but things like that take time.

70 mbps connection, standing 30 centimetres away from the router, i have only two lines connection and then i lost connection completely. That happens very often.

This is a serious issue that must be fixed by chess.com asap.

I have the same problem, but ONLY when I am winning big. When Chess.com tells me I am having disconnection problems, I check my homes internet connection and there are absolutely no problems with my connection, or internet. I now truly believe that certain players have learned how to cheat by being able to hack Chess.com and cause opponents to look like they have connection problems. I hate cheaters.

This has just started happening to me on IOS and I have a very stable connection with high speeds. Lost three games by disconnect today. I was winning by huge margins. If it keeps happening, I’m gone.

There was a restart about 10 minutes before your post.

There is more to the connection process than just your local internet.

https://support.chess.com/article/873-how-can-i-improve-my-live-chess-connection

That article has some information that can be used to minimize problems on your end. However, even with that, there can be problems between you and the live server. There isn't a hack that is being used.

Funny how when people lose by disconnect, they start assuming that their opponents "hack them"

You just have to close out the app and go back in that’s what I do when that happens.
