Unfair punishment, request a repeal. Can I email a moderator?

I was interrupted mid-game, which I'd never seen before, and then I was no longer allowed to communicate in my bughouse game. I'd like my muting removed so there are no strikes against me and so I can play again, and so that this won't happen to other players.

I was penalized for letting my teammate know not to trade a knight for a minute.

They are not usually around on a Sunday evening.

I would recommend writing an email to support@chess.com.

This was a false positive from the automated system.  You had a typo in the word "knight" - two "g"s - leading it to interpret four letters from the middle of it as a short-hand form of a common highly offensive racist slur.

The first time you did it you got an automated warning.  When you tried to repeat it with the same typo, it auto-muted you for an hour.

The auto-mute only lasts for an hour, so while we can't undo that hour when you could not chat, it's clear now.  It also only applies to live chess and ChessTV chat; it does not apply to forums, etc.

Also, when mods and staff look at your account, the text of what was flagged is recorded, so we can easily see it's a false positive from a typo.  No action will ever be taken against your account for an obvious false positive.

When something is automated, false positives happen.  I once heard of a mod getting slapped by the auto-mod in ChessTV chat when trying to talk to someone with "GambitChess" in his name, due to unfortunate combination of the last three letters of "gambit" and the first two of "chess".  It's known as the Scunthorpe Problem, or, when filters automatically replace the offending word with an innocuous synonym, the Clbuttic Mistake.

As of right now, then, there are no strikes against your account and no restrictions hindering you playing bughouse.  If it happens again, check for typos or possibly-misunderstood words after getting the warning before you resend it.

What a frustrating problem. But I'm glad there is nothing permanent against my account.
Aside from that frustration-

Thank you for your help. That was quite clear and helpful. Actually that was an impressive answer. Best wishes.
@MGleason also @Wind @notmtwain
