Using the site through a proxy

Hello!

I often need to visit the site through a proxy in order to bypass a censorship filter.

So, my question is - is using the site resources through a proxy allowed by chess.com? I am fully aware that there are many reasons as to why sites would allow or disallow proxies, but I couldn't find any material regarding chess.com's policy on this (which doesn't mean that it isn't there).

I tried submitting a support ticket, but it's been a few days and no luck there.

I don't want to risk losing my account over something as silly as this, so I would like some clarification either way. If it isn't allowed I'll stop immediately. Thank you!

Hello! Yes, you got the reference. Yoona is awesome!

I am not sure what you are talking about, as I am through a proxy right now and no special effort or fooling anything was needed.

I assume that your point is that some proxy addresses were already banned for abuse, or that some types of proxy are not allowed.

Of course it matters if it is allowed or not! I suppose it would be easy enough to create a new account, but I still have morals, and what's the point of opening new accounts to have them closed eventually?

And I love Yoona, I wouldn't want to lose this account. :(

I see, I guess I don't know what you were talking about. I am not a hacker and I am not trying to bypass anything, except for stupid local censorship.

On accounts, yes, lots are opened and closed everyday, but it's not like it's normal for one person to have 10 accounts.

Anyway, I believe that my question is clear enough, and I just want a clear official stance on the subject. If proxies aren't allowed, or if it's judged in a case-by-case basis, I understand, and I can live with it... it just would allow me to use this site more often, that's all.

Hi.  I am in a similar situation of needing to bypass blocking censorship software.  I use the Tor Browser Bundle https://www.torproject.org/projects/torbrowser.html .  Some of the IP addresses provided by Tor are blocked by chess.com (I assume to prevent advertising spam), but you can simply click the "New Identity" option and find one that isn't blocked.

Hello!

Thank you for the useful post! In fact, I have been using Tor myself, and I can relate to your experience.

I guess that you can understand how frustrating it is to not have an official stance on the matter! I don't want to have my account closed as a result of some eventual IP association with an abuser.

I suppose that I am probably overthinking it, and I'll just have to take all this silence as "silent compliance" - use it if you can, and we'll evaluate your actions.

I just got a clear answer from Support Staff. If you happen to be in a similar situation as me, send me a Private Message and I'll forward the answer.

Thank you everyone for your support!
