What do all the symbols mean that are scattered around the chess.com webpage

Is this a feature or bug or just something in my settings - I'm confused

There seems to be unlikely symbols everywhere - sometimes hovering gives a description but sometime not - often in front of text so I'm guessing it should be some kind of informative icon picture - sometimes not - just something to click and guess what will happen next ...

Not sure how I can attach an image of this ....

For example before the the word Help (bottom left of screen) I get something like "(" (open bracket) but in a larger font.

I got what you are trying to say. In fact, I have seen those irrelevant symbols also. Only time when I had seen them was when a page I clicked was not completely loaded and before it loads completely, it shows some weird symbols (like some code language) in place of actual words. But, still if you move your cursor on them, it shows the description! I think this is what you are facing too. I don't know the specific reason , but I had witnessed this when my connection had a bad lag and the page was partially loaded. Can be some bug also!

Bheeshmaparva - Maybe - but my symbols are 100% consistent and I think my link is okay ...

For example above your post it says "5 min ago" then a capital O with 2 dots above it (on hovering it says "Quote") (other symbols follow equally cryptic ...)

Also more colourfully just below your text there are 4 "Buttons"

1st is Large white "S" om Blue background on hover this is "Share on Faebook"

2nd is Large white "F" on light blue background on hover this is "Share on twitter"

3rd is + over - symbol, 4th is Capital greek Omega but with a small tick intop left ...

It all seems mad - but it is consistent ...

Occasionally its really annoying - on Lessons hovering gets me no text so each button click is a surprize - I can't believee its like this generally ... Its must be something specific to my set-up ..

Worked out how to get an image in this now ... here's an example of what the bottom left of my chess.com screen looks like (these are obvious because of the text but some don't have text)  ...

What I had seen was exactly the same issue. Though not exact letters, I am sure now that the issue was same. I had seen letters like capital A and Greek letters in between, numbers etc. Although, I have seen many times, everytime I thought it was due to some lag in my connection. Can you still see those weird symbols on your screen now?

Oh yes - always there every time

Even in analysis of a game there is strange symbols instead of icons for Knight Queen King etc - so I think it is some kind of icon-set issue were I am getting mad symbols instead of small icons - maybe its just this PC / Browser I must try signng in on another PC sometime ...

What browser and version are you using? Also, do you have any add-ons or plugins? If so, it's possible one of those could be interfering with the images being loaded (they load from a content delivery network)

In my case, if I remember correctly, it appeared when I was using edge browser. You might be right. Once I switched on to Chrome, I haven't experienced this issue. I don't know about his case. As I have already mentioned above, I have seen the issue very few times unlike him. But, the issue was exactly the same

Works fine in Chrome ... Thanks ... Using Firefox, bit surprized it is an issue

Only the chosen ones can decipher the code and understand the message.

I believe that's a browser setting around the fonts. The browser should be loading the site defined fonts.

Those with eyes to see the message, will not be allowed to see the message. Those who are starving, will not see the meaning.

I have not changed any browser font settings how should i check to ensure its loading the site font?

I'm really not sure - I think with firefox it was refusing to download a special font that chess.com is using for all the kings/queens /knights etc so my default font looked like drunk ancient greek. I am guessing this is the same issue here on a different browser but I don't know how to do anything on anything other than firefox etc

It's possible it's a plug-in/extension causing the problem.
