It was in the 1200s when I played it, now it went to the 1300s and is beating 1400 players (even 1500 in bullet).
You guys need to set it to a certain range. That's how we base playing it or not.
The bots gain/lose rating just like players. If it is winning most of the time against 1200's it's rating is higher than that. Eventually its rating will stabilize.
I guess it is possible it got bugged and lost its configuration, but the ratings do change based on results.
The David bot is more difficult than the bot that follows it. It seems like the more I play it the more difficult it becomes. Its infuriating! LOL
I've finally, finally, finally beaten the David bot with two crowns! I must be a slow learner, because it took me at least a month!
Right there with you - took me a few weeks at least. Got lucky on this latest attempt today and decided I wanted to literally CRUSH him leaving him with NADA 
(man did that feel good...)
That does seem to be the winning strategy...take out as many of his pieces as you can.

I enjoyed stepping through this game! I've never beaten David or Mateo in the Intermediate category before. Nice win ;-)

why does David play such weird openings but gets better towards the end?
David plays weird openings exploring their gambits and tricks, that's why he looks to get better towards the ends.

I am having similar issues. Beating most bots. I did the best against him when he was trying to block/capture my Queen and I was able to string together a series of checks and pick off his pawns on the left side. I had a 3 pawn advantage and a passed pawn and yet he still beat me in the end game.. I have yet to beat him too.
I did it finally.. Playing Black no less.
