Why can’t I castle
Sort:
Have not moved my Rook or my King, I am conversant with what prevents you being able to Castle. The software sometimes prevents me castleing - sometimes it lets me after the 10th go other times I think stuff it and do something else, is there a work around?
There are a number of cases when castling is not permitted.
Your king has been moved earlier in the game.
The rook that you would castle with has been moved earlier in the game.
There are pieces standing between your king and rook.
The king is in check.
The king moves through a square that is attacked by a piece of the opponent.
The king would be in check after castling.

I come across the same issue. My pieces meet all of the criteria noted above. The system kept me from castling in 3 separate games tonight. Frustrating.

There are other days this does not occur. I am not sure what triggers it.
Thank You, I am aware of why I wouldn't be allowed to Castle, what urged me to make the original post was being stopped from Castling on 8 attempts and on the 9th it allowed me. In past games I have made a number of attempts and thought bugger it and did something else, very frustrating!
Instead of dragging the mouse, try clicking.

SAME PROBLEM HAVE I HAD SOME TIMES.
Currently Im analysing one my came and i want to see how good would it be for me to castle in a certain position and it just doesnt allow me to do that... havent moved king , havent moved rook, isnt going through check , wouldnt end up in check etc... frustrating
Same issue. Cannot castle 3 games in a row.

If you're using click-move the process has changed. You can no longer click the king and then the rook to castle in standard chess. You have to click the king and then the destination square

I can't castle despite not having moved my pieces and there are no checks. The usual castling rule applies but I can't castle using the app. But in windows, I can castle.
I have nottry by windows, but I have the same problem like “junelas” its like software mistake. :/
Facing the same issue. Not allowed to castle. Is there someplace we can upload a screenshot to discuss if I am missing anything?
The same problem has happen to me this morning
Tried messaging them, but to no avail. I guess you need to be a premium member for chess.com to respond to you. Lol. Tried uninstalling the app, but still it persists.

The site has changed castling to remove the ability to click the king and then the rook to castle, at least by default. If that is what you want to do you need to change the Castling Method under Settings > Board and Pieces to Legacy from Normal.
If you prefer to use click-move, you can click the king and then the destination square under the Normal setting. With drag-move you can drag to the destination square or drag the king to the rook
