1 minute games,

Don t you just hate it when you play a 1 minute game, and your opponent gets all MAD when you win on time. I have a quick rating that has gone between 1650 and 1800 and tends to stay inbetween there. I find that the players rated between 1250-1650 maybe don't understand this concept.

Also using the premove, even though they know and they themselves are using premove, they think you are cheating on time because your using premove,

Unless you can get mate in the 1 minute you have, you probably will not win!

Simendo

I have played a lot of these games. I have 1340 in quick-rating. I have had people saying i am cheating because i win on time, and that just silly. As so say they dont get the concept. I have probably played a 100 games, but i think i have never won on Checkmate. I found my self being quite good in thinking fast(i manage to stay away from getting mated at least), but i admit that these quick-games maybe dont help me get better in chess.

Simendo

Yes of course. I think i will be able to checkmate more often in quick games when i get better. I have actually use premoves in any games at live chess. Maybe this is something i should look into.

kingforce

If you learn the basic concepts especially, in the endgame tactics, if your up on material, you can win with 1 second left, I played a 2200 on quick. Once I was up by a rook, but I didn't have enough time to get the mate in, i didn't call him a time cheater, just really good defense, and thats why he has his rating, he can still win losing games,

Please can you explain a pre-move ?

Recently i played a game in which over several moves in a row, he did zero seconds. I tried to move as fast as i could, with firefox brouwser (better then IE here), but i was unable to move faster a single peace in a single second (while he did multiple). Every move my clock ticked, while his clock didnt seam to tick. Altough to me it felt he used time too, before i saw it move.

I got the impresion playing against some kind of computer program, moving my mouse clicking it all takes time. I tought of internet lag, but recently i heard another player complaining a simmilair game with all 0 sec moves (not just 3 or so more..), he refused to talk about it or explain it, .. so it made me believe he was cheating.

Now i hear premove, how you do it how does it work ?

Saccadic

^ You can cancel your premove by using the right-click.

it's not like 1 min chess ratings have any relation to skill at chess.

horcrux

You're right I had misspelled relationship previously but other than that, nope. I have watched too many of those games to be impressed by big ratings at 1 min chess. They're chock full of bad moves the sole purpose of which are to run out clocks.

horcrux

Nope but 1 min chess except perhaps when played by masters is just bad chess. so if you're proud of a high 1 min rating then you're proud of making less bad moves than the even worse moves of your opponents. Look I have no disrespect of you. You beat me the only time we played but I have simply seen too much horrible chess in 1 min games to ever be convinced that it is worthy of the name of the game. I'm no expert I'm 1850 OTB and that's my opinion.

sebas4life

lol horcrux you are not right and you are being ignorant. Bullet games can be very very nice especially played by higher rated players. There are nice tactics in almost every game.

Of course you don't want to analyze them, but you don't wanna analyze 5 minute blitz games either. They are just for fun and they can be very competetive.

horcrux

I wasn't talking about 5 min games. I am speaking about 1 min games. How can I be ignorant of what I have personally observed? Obviously I am not ignorant of what I have seen because I have seen it. 1 min games are full of bad moves, period. I have seen it. Telling me that you consider me ignorant isn't argument, it's just name calling.

dc1985

Lightning chess is pretty bad for you, unless your mind can actually move at around 40 moves per minute, and have none of them be ? or ??. Those games are somewhat useful, but not as much as long chess.

horcrux

I agree with that. But 1 min games generally between average players results in seriously flawed tactics which succeed only because the other person hasn't the time see how to refute them as they deserve to be refuted. It's still bad chess.

Batero

sorry, how do you play 1 minute games?

where's the option to do that i mean

thx

You are right. I can't believe people get so rude and upset when they lose period! Especially with blitz/bullet. I like 3 min games. It is helpful I think with openings and for time pressure in an over the board game. One guy commented to me "I would beat you in a long game!" Well it wasn't a long game it was 3 min and I beat him twice. Also, so many people REFUSE to hit resign and be a good sport. They disconnect, let the time run out, anything but resign. I guess they are delusional and think they did not lose that way. News flash- You lost! Get over it. It's internet speed chess for God's sake. Who cares.

Another thing that gets me is when some chess snob who  accepts MY challenge/parameters and they are 100-150 points higher  and they "abort" after seeing my rating. I guess I am too low rated for them . God forbid they lose and hurt their precious Internet chess rating. Like anyone gives a crap. Talk to me when you are an expert or master in the real chess world.  I have had people get mad because you say "gg". To me that is just like a handshake over the internet. It did not mean the game will be in a chess book someday and analyzed by masters . A bunch of people need to lighten up, have more fun and add some manners. No one likes losing, especially me, but this is for fun not money.

About the pre-moves, can it be done in OTB chess? If it doesn`t i don`t see a reson for it in live chess on this, or any other site.

KAKROACH

Yes premove is a lethal weapon than can prove enough to win a quick game of 1 minute and i agree that your opponent thinks your timer is not moving but in reality it is not so.

I agree - a big rating in a quick game here would translate into getting crushed OTB.  If your a good OTB player w/ a high rating and want to play quick games on-line for fun, thats one thing.  I see a lot of people w/ high ratings in quick/blitz that have mediocre ratings in long live games or on-line games.  This tells me that many of the people playing quick games aren't very strong players, and w/o computers and pre-moves, wouldn't fair well.

kingforce

the trouble with timers in 1 minute, is if the opponent is looking for a win on time, they are watching your clock, I never look at the clock in 1 minute games, only at the end, I try to do the best move every move as quickly as I can, people that play 1 minute games and look at the clock are not playing chess, i don't even notice if they are premoving or not, (at the beginning) for the lower rated people 1 minute is about how fast you can move, thats all, (even one player thought they could win by playing nf3 ng1 nf3 ng1 nf3 ng1, )  that was a quick game i tell you

jk00750

Personally, I see a purpose in 1 min games.  The opening should be put behind you in about 3 min or so, but the best moves are sometimes the ones that take deep thinking that would cause one to lose in a 1 min game.  I personally favor the longer games, usually an hour or two per player for time control.
