I have also just requested this via the 'Make a Suggestion' function. Just an option in settings to disable it would be great! Such a frustrating mouslip 😭
It should be touch move. You should have to move the king (or castle as castling is technically a king move.)

There is a change being rolled out where clicking the king and then the rook won't castle. The king will need to move to the destination square either bey click the king the the square or dragging it there
That should get available for everyone early next week.
Hi, this change would be great. Is it available yet? I can’t find it (playing on iPhone)
It's extremely hard to figure out what you mean. The change Martin was talking came out months ago. What do you mean you "can't find it"?
Thanks for the quick reply. To be clear, I was referring to Martin’s mention that “There is a change being rolled out where clicking the king and then the rook won't castle”.
I have just updated the Chess.com app on my iPhone to be sure I didn’t miss it: tested again and clicking the king and then the rook does still castle. Instead, the desired result in this case is to select the rook. To castle, moving the king to its destination square would be required.
What I meant then is that if this change was implemented as an optional feature, then I can’t find how to disable castling by selecting king then rook.
Today the castling method change appeared in the mobile app! Thank you
There's a setting to allow the old way as well but the new default disables that method.
Oh whow.
I only joined recently, thus this was always disabled for me, and boy this is a bad idea.
If I want to castle I pick up the king and move it two fields left or right ... if I first pick the king, but then pick the rook, obviously I wanted to move the rook instead.
Just like with ANY OTHER PIECE.
A classic example of less is more.
This isn't so much a bug report as much as a feature request. It appears there are two ways to castle in live chess (using point-and-click). One is to move the king left/right two squares, the other is to select the king then rook consecutively, or the rook then king consecutively.
I am requesting that there be a way to disable the second method. I have accidentally castled more times than I can count, because I intend to castle the other way (let's say kingside), so I select the king, then I change my mind and decide to move my queen rook (say, to d1) and end up castling queenside. There's no other type of move that is made by selecting two of your own pieces consecutively, it just seems like a bad UI choice to me.
This happens probably every 20-30 games for me, and I have a few friends that are also on this site and many of them have said the same thing happens to them regularly. If castling method could be configured in settings, I'd greatly appreciate it. If this option already exists, please let me know. Thank you for considering.
