Avoiding rude players and the fact that chatting during blitz is a distraction.
I don't disable chat but I will pretty much ignore the chat window until after a game or if I have plenty of tme and it's my opponent's move.

I use to agree with the OP, but in the last few months the people I encouter seem to be some of the rudest people ever. I'm at the point where I'm ready to automatically turn off chat for each game.
I find the OP's argument weak. Interrupting communications during chess? There are only the moves on the board. The computer states check and check mate much better and faster than a chat window ever can.
Sense most people these days take anonymous communications as an open invitation to be obnoxious, the chat window is not communication, it is an unneeded distraction.
"If you want a friend, buy a dog."
All sort of reasons. All stemming from the fact that they dont want to talk to you. It takes all kinds. There are those who love chat, and those that hate it. I personally will not play someone who disables chat, meaning that I will either resign immediately or play some crazy line that makes no sense just to end the game early. To me chess is by definition a social game. If you dont want to be social, play a computer.

I just happened to run across this forum by accident and had just finished answering another forum that deals with this same topic from a different angle. I think you may enjoy taking a look. I found "the pot calling the kettle black", to be exactly what this was about, and a very poor example to be attempting any type of opinionated response. I found the response far more offensive than the verbiage of the complaint. I took the time to use this to teach people something they may have not known, while spanking such an unsporting like response, using tact and humor. It was meant to be humorous anyway. I think this forum ties in real well with that one, (I have listed it's link above). The sad part for me was, to my regret, I went and checked out the offended's offender, and he is a FIDE Rated 2000. This is a person who we should be looking up to.
Yes,,,i agree with you! Congrants!

One just gets grief if chat is enabled on this site.
This^^
I get insulted about every other game. It gets tiresome. IRL ,most of these nits would address me as "sir", but in the safety of their nerd caves, they find confidence.
Confidence is the wrong word. They fail to recognize humanity and begin acting like an animal, forgetting a person is on the other side. I've found that people with images get less attacks and even get compliments, though there are also others whose prejudice leaks out depending on the type of image displayed.
But confidence? No, confidence doesn't cause insults.
Also, no one is entitled to our voice. We need to stop forcing ourselves on others, especially strangers we'll know for less than 30 minutes of chess.

I leave chat on, but pretty much ignore it until the game is over, like Martin_Stahl wrote. After the game is over we can chat if you like, by chat box or private message. Are you going to resign or play crazy moves if I don't immediately reply to chats during the game? Please have patience, I'm trying to concentrate on not losing.
I wont disable chat, even if someone acts like a complete lunatic. If they want to concentrate on insulting me, while i concentrate on the game thats fine by me. Just know that you will be reported, and probably blocked.
I will chat "gl" before the game starts, and "gg" after the game. 99.9999% of my opponents dont reply.
When I was playing some kid in Ireland he wanted to know if I was a rich American and would I send him money for indecent pictures of him. I reported it, and the moderators did nothing. But when I was playing with an adult "friend" and made a bad move I chatted the 4-letter version of "shoot" and a moderator came on immediately to chastise me. Scared the hell out of me! I don't chat now because big brother is watching, but only for my freudian slips.
So far in the only instance of having someone actually say something, they simply said 'Hi'. I replied back in kind and they didn't say anything after that. I've played very few games so far, but still that seemed like not much of a reason to have the chat feature.
Hey Guys,
Anybody knows how can I disable chat during a online play ?
There's an option in settings to disable chat.

The fact that you refer to others as 'nits' makes me think the likelihood of anyone calling you sir is quite remote. Perhaps some self reflection is in order?
You seem to be the one lacking confidence?
Why do people disable chat during blitz games?
To avoid abusive players?
Makes no sense....interruption of communication leaves a bad impression.
