I'm no expert but I had the same problem as you trying to figure out the seek graph. As best I can figure:
Light green circles are rated games with other players.
Grey circles are unrated games with other players.
Grey squares are unrated games with computer.
Light green squares are rated games with other players but with non-standard time controls.
Orange circles with ears are tournaments.
Other icons such as "960" are challenges for variants.
If you hover over an icon with the mouse pointer you will see the details for that open challenge. (Time controls, player, internet connection quality, etc) If you click on the player you can go to their profile.
Also the placement of the icon on the graph represents the Elo rating of the challenger and the time control.
Following is a screenprint that might help. See comments after screenprint.
Click on the settings icon (gear between time(15:00 and Play)) to get the settings menu seen in the open box.
I have selected the fourth tab over which is the seek graph settings.
I leave Rating range and Time range as shown. If the graph is too cluttered you can insert values in these settings to narrow the challenges to those you would be inclined to accept.
If Rated only switch is on only rated challenges will show on the graph.
If Premium only switch is on only challenges from members with Premium memberships will show.
If Hide computer is on then computer challenges will not show.
If Hide varients is on then varient challenges will not show. (Chess 960 for example)
Click on Save to save any changes you make.
If any of this information is wrong, corrections should be forthcoming from other members.
I have contacted support about the help information on the seek graph being misleading.
I hope this is helpful and you enjoy your time on Chess.com.
Hi everyone!
I am new to Chess.com. I read the help document on understanding the seek graph (called 'how do l use the seek graph') that comes up for open challenges, and the icons it explains in the help doc are not the same as the icons I am seeing on my mobile device in the live seek graph. I have opened the site in Firefox and Chrome and it is no different. Have the icons changed? This is what I see:
Is there a new help document or can someone help explain the various icons and what they mean!
Hope one of the experts can respond
Thanks!
