Well, I have searched high and low for an answer and im sure it is somewhere obvious, but, will someone please tell me why ive timed out on a live game and lost, even though I had accumulated more points than my opposition ?

Huh? If you run out of time you lose if your opponent has enough material to checkmate.

The point values for pieces are just a guide. It's not a game of collecting points.

I was playing the live 10 minute game. When we had used our 10 minute timer up, the computer decides the winner. So I take it that the more impressive pieces left on the board account for the winner ?

Only you used your time up, he didn't, it's not a joint timer.

Nope, the person who doesn't run out of time is the winner.
