playing online with specific person

Hi, in this time of epidemic, I would like to be able to play with my grandson online in some way, either thru chess.com or some other way.  How can I do this?  I have no interest in playing with other people and don't want a timed game.  I've done due diligence searching around on this site and can't find anything but may just be missing it.  Thanks for any help.

Well, if you are both members of chess.com (free or premium, it doesn't matter), you can challenge him to a game. You need to know his user name. Then click play new game and set a time control. (Up to 14 days for a move) Here is more detail.

You can change the time control.

Millions of people have done it. You can too.

Thank you so much -- totally missed that.  Thanks again!

Notmtwain do you know if when you are doing this if one person’s rating gets higher will it not allow you to play each other anymore?

You can always play an unrated game or rating levels may be adjusted by  clicking  Settings

That's in your settings. You can set the range of challenges you will accept. You can also set it so that your friends can always challenge you.

Thank you. I was playing my uncle in Jan and Feb and his rating went up while mine plummeted from bone headed moves. Then we tried to play and it wouldn’t let us but that will fix it👍🏻 Hope all of you are doing well and keeping safe.

I created both accounts successfully.  Call the second one the Kids account.  I linked the accounts as friends.  With both of them running on separate devices, I issued a "challenge" from my account to the Kids account.  The Kids account received a notice and accepted it.  In the Kids account’s display, a game board opened, showing me correctly as the opponent.  I made a move on that board.  Nothing ever appears on my account.  What do I have to do at this point?  I’ve tried this whole challenge/accept/make-a-move sequence multiple times but I never see anything on my account to allow me to participate in the game from my account.  This is very frustrating.

@opajmb - it should work. I have just issued you a challenge for an unrated game. Let's see if that works. If it works we can just cancel the game.

I agree it must be frustrating. But I think you might be missing something obvious. For example, when it is your move you should get a red indicator.

In the above you can see that I have two games where it is my move. I need to click on that to see the games. The games don't automatically appear because you could 50 such games going at once

It's working for us.  But still not for the two accounts I have.  Thanks for trying to help.

how strange

it may be that the system thinks you have made multiple accounts with the same email account and that you are trying to play yourself which is illegal. contact support with the two account names. i am sure it can be resolved

They have different e-mail accounts.  I'm trying to set up everything for my young(ish) grandson to play me easily.  Thanks for the help.

I found the solution.  The second account is running on a tablet.  After making a move, you have to scroll down to see a checkbox to confirm the move.  Only then does the game connect on the issuing account.  Sorry for all the confusion but this was not obvious.

I thought it would be something like that. Hope you enjoy it. I think chess.com is a brilliant platform. You can play daily or live games.
