Rating after resignation

I recently played someone on live chess and they resigned, but I don't think my rating went up. Does your rating go up only when you mate them or just not every time you win?

nothing happens to your rating unless no moves have been played, 1 move has been played or 2 moves have been played by each and white plays the 3rd while black doesn't resigns.

anything else ur rating shud go up unless it's a bug

edit: assuming u played a rated game

I see 2 games for you in the last 2 months where your rating didn't change-- one was a loss for you on Nov. 2 and the other was a win for you on Nov. 6 (your opponent timed out).  Both of those were played as unrated games (shows under the details tab when you view the game), so if you weren't aware they were unrated either you accidentally included that setting when you set up the game, or you didn't notice that a game you accepted was set as unrated.

If a game is rated, the only way your rating shouldn't increase when you win is if the minimum number of moves were not made, or your rating was so far above your opponent's that your calculated gain for the win is zero change.  You have to be a few hundred points higher than your opponent for the second circumstance to occur.

Ohhh! I forgot that I played some unrated games. Duh! Of course the game wouldn't affect my rating. Gracias!!

Is it a bug or do you lose rating points after just one move each? I just resigned my game after only 1 move but was surprised to lose rating pointsYell

You've got more than your fair share platolag, quit hogging them all.

? my opponent just got free rating point for what? the loss should have counted against me but there should have been no rating gain or loss by both parties.

Please fix the bug and restore my rating pointsYell

Probably not a bug.  There are several forums where people say it makes a difference whether the game ends by timeout or by resignation.  For timeouts there is a mininum number of moves required, but a couple people have written that resignations always get recorded as rated games.  Unfortunately, I didn't see any posts by staff on this topic, just members posting about their own experiences.

The game was rated. You didn't gain any points because your opponent's rating was almost 900 points lower.
