Step by Step instruction on how to play live chess with friends

In this post I will instruct you on how you can play live chess with friends or how to access live chess.

STEP 1: Log into live chess by clicking " PLAY"

STEP 2:  Go to the homepage live chess after clicking "PLAY LIVE"  which is a subamanu under "play" option.

STEP 3: Here you will see a big orange button  with " PLAY LIVE CHESS" written on it. Simply click on it.

it will take you to LIVE-CHESS server.

Step 4: Navigate to right sidebar you will see some options >> see image -

In option 1, you will set your custon timing, 3,5,10,15 any whatever game you want to play (blitz, bullet, or standard).

Select "rated or unrated" from dropdown option.

What should be the rating of your opponent ? Set minimum or maximum rating according to your preference,

within this rating range only, server will search a opponent for you.

Finally click orange button, "Start Game", and wait for your server response.

This will seek a player  according to your setting.

Alternate way :

Select a opponent from graph, there will see lot of green dots

dark green dots indicates game challange created by presently online players, light green dots indicates computers, 

bottom numbers (1,2,3 so on) indicates game timing and format (1->bullet game for 1 minute, 3, 5, 10 -> blitz games for 3, 5 and 10 mins and 15, 30 and boave are for standard long games)

Left numbers(1000, 12000, 1600) indicates rating range.

Take your mouse cursor at any of green dot, a pop-up window will apear with deatil of player who has created this challenge. 

Click any of dot to start a instant game.

sometime you will see these dots are in blue, this indicates that this challenge has been created by one of your friend.

How do I play with my friend ?

You can find him/her in game seek tab also you can challenge other players there too, to find this option just navigate to bottom to graph seek tab, see this pic >>

Alternate Method is that, there is "Friends tab" as well, click on it to open 

All of your friend names are visible here, click your friend's, you want to challenge, and select "Challange to play".. see demo image below>>

How do I search my firend's name ?

To search whether your firend is online or not, you have to use ping command,

correct syntax for ping command is >>

use any chatroom to type  ping syntax, you can join INDIA 11 group, and feel free to use INDIA 11 chat room.

Correct ping syntax >>

/ping shweta_beniwal  (then enter)

Example : /ping shweta_beniwal

as soon as you will hit enter.

You will see a messae. It will show ping of your friend, you searching for.

If it's showing some number with your friend's name,

that's indicates, your friend is online and you can challenge me.

You can successfully challange your friend for game , click at their username,  like here I have  "bomlicar"..click on his/her username and select option "Challenge to a game".

Rest process is same as above.

Thanks Shweta for useful info. which I had no knowledge as I joined just 2months back.

We had a chat also while watching us championship. I would like to play soon when ;yr timings match with us timings.

Good as far as it goes. What happens if your new to chess and have no idea what ratings are, how calculated and by whom? Also no information of how you know your friend can be contacted, Are they on Chess.com or can they be enrolled for a game by e mail?

Finally.Do games have to be played live? OR can they go on move by move over days?

Does "rated game" mean the game will affect your rating,, or that you are looking for an opponent with a particular rati g range? Thanks.
