Ummm, if your clock runs out (either per move in Online Chess, or for the game in Live Chess), you lose unless your opponent could not possibly checkmate you with the material still left on the board, in which case the game ends in a draw.

same problem with me... i lost many game due to time or reconnection.

Re-initiating a game when a user is less than a week late would be more respectful to the app users who want to finish a game they couldn't reply to for four days instead of three.
