I forgot to mention it's a FORCED mate in 3.

Also, you cannot move the pieces (just to make it more difficult) and lastly I'd appreciate if nobody shows the answer and puts the answer in WHITE ink for whoever wants to see. Thank you.

kkl10

Be8+ Kh8 Qxf8+ Ng8 Qxg8# (or Rxg8#)

There are several alternative lines.

There are a few, yes, I agree, but there's the best one which is a forced mate in 3. Good luck, hope you find it!

Maybe his logic is that a checkmate ends a game.

I don't think this is 1500, it seems very easy.

1: Bxh7+ Kh8 2: Bg8+ Qh7 3: Qxh7#

Here is the better variation though which is mate in 2.

1: Bf7+ Kh8 2: Qxf6#

CoffehCat

@xman720: That's the whole point of the problem though; the king runs away from the corner in that case: ie. 1. Bxh7+ Kf7 (2. Rg7+ Ke8 3. Rxc7) or  1. Bf7+ Kxf7

1. Be8+ Kh8 2. QxRf8+ Ng8 3. QxNg8#

Nice puzzle! Well, 1 Bf7+ is not correct because of 1...Kxf7 and he escapes to e8. Below is my solution:

1 Be8+ should be game over for Black... now if

1...Kh8  2 Qxf8+ Ng8  3 Qxg8# (or 3 Rxg8#) or if he interposes with

1...Ng4  2 Rxg4+ Qg7  3 Qxg7#.  If he plays

2...Kh8 in this line, then again 3.Qxf8#

It is not sooo easy after all. At least not if you want to give mate in the quickest possible way.

You ask people not to post the answer...so what happens?  Yep..people post the answer.

Thanks, I see the other mate in 3 now that I realize I don't have a piece covering f7. Oh well :)

Meet_Your_Sensei

this is not an endgame

You're right, my mistake. I wasn't thinking when I wrote the title (obviously).

Bf7+ Kxf7

You completely forgot about the Knight on f6 covering the h-pawn.

I'd appreciate it if you convered your answer so others have an equal chance of finding the solution, thanks.

I know, right? It happens at least once when I post puzzles.

If I knew how to hide the comments I would have, sorry about that.
