My rating is 1650 now. Used to be 1800 before a bad slump. I made this crazy advanced MATE-IN-3 puzzle in 30 minutes. My father (Username: kingforaknight) couldn't solve it, and he is rated 2200!

PUZZLE SOLUTION EXPLANATION: Of course Black can respond in multiple ways to White's moves, but no matter what Black does, White will always have a MATE-IN-3!

Wow, nice one. If you select "puzzle" under "theme" when making a puzzle, you can hide the solution.

Thanks for the tip there! This is my first puzzle post on here. I fixed it.

Pretty good puzzle. But like the other one, the position is illegal which is easy to repair.

Most puzzle composers are proud when making a puzzle costs them like 500 hours. There are no rewards for speed-composing though composers occasionally gather to compose under time duress. Generally, quality is appreciated highly over quantity and speed.

So it's different from puzzle solving where speed is a virtue!

Speed composing is a bit like punk rock, it might be quick, easy (and in the case of punk require no knowledge of music theory or how to play your instruments) but it's unlikely to be as harmonious as something by someone who does use those things.

Well, I dissent: Think of a crazy, difficult, legendary chess puzzle that is yet to be created. You have a choice of creating that puzzle in 30 minutes or 1 month. Which would you choose, assuming both options do not require any luck? Not only would the former option save time, but it would also feel more rewarding for you, since it took you much less time to create it.

I can assure you that this puzzle required a bunch of mental energy, even though it took around 30 minutes to create, and that I did not come up with this puzzle randomly or by pure luck.

Of course, I would create the puzzle in 30 minutes. But puzzles are not made for oneself but for others. I am sure that investing a year would deliver a better puzzle - for instance one with more variations - and such a puzzle would be more enjoyable for those who solve it. So it's kind of a trade-off how much time you want to spend to make a more enjoyable puzzle.
