Here's the answer

there are SO MANY mistakes you can make, and that's what makes my puzzle so hard

StockfishThinksImStupid

It's black to move after the blunder

Arisktotle

Boring - for someone with a 2800 puzzle rating.

1: I bet at least it took you a while to solve this puzzle

2: how is it boring?

You have a point there! It took me about 3,000,000,000 nanoseconds to solve. Which is an immensely long time for some subatomic particles!

Explain to me, how did you get a 2800 puzzle rating? I never met anyone on that rating level who could not solve such a simple series of checks within 2,000,000,000 nanoseconds. The only argument against it being boring is that I didn't have enough time to yawn before I was done. You have to trust me on doing that - ultimately.

THIS IS MY OWN PUZZLE THAT I MADE BY MYSELF

StockfishThinksImStupid

And it isnt a simple series of checks because there are many tricks in that position and I bet I would take you a long time to figure it out without the solution

rgouh

Fairly cool... but stockfish says the easier Rxc1+ wins too, with less tricks.

StockfishThinksImStupid

Ye that is an alternative route but for whatever reason stockfish prefers Qe4+ before Rxc1+

You just lost your bet! To solve a puzzle you need not see all the tricks in the position, only the moves that work - which is easiest when they are all checks or other "forced" moves. I think chess.com would not rate this puzzle over 1500.

magipi

The simple 2. - Rxc1 3. Qxc1 Qe4+ leads to the same line. It's very bad when the puzzle has 2 solutions.

StockfishThinksImStupid

1: who the hell even cares

2: so what if there's two solutions ITS NOT THE END OF THE WORLD

3: just put two solutions in the puzzle

4: stockfish prefers playing Qe4+ before Rxc1+

@Arisktotle you don't know what you're talking about. You forget that 700s easily solve 1500 rated puzzles and 1600's easily solve 2300 rated puzzles.

@Arisktotle

THIS PUZZLE WAS RATED 2829!

NOW HOW DOES MY PUZZLE ONLY GET RATED 1500?! My puzzle would have to be over 1300 points lower which obviously doesnt correspond to the level of difficulty to this puzzle

Well, every time I had to climb the Puzzle Rush Survival ladder I came through all rating levels from 100 thru 3500 - so I know what they look like. And that is a poor 2829 puzzle, the sort which people complain about all the time on the forums. For instance many puzzle ratings were frozen before their "true" ratings settled. Nevertheless, that puzzle is still harder than yours. Your puzzle skills are so low that you wouldn't know how to tell a hard from a simple puzzle and you are nowhere near the 2800 mark.

You won't know either that there is an chess organization (of which I and many others are a member) which is completely focused on creating and solving puzzles - which they call "compositions". Their puzzles occasionally make their way to chess.com but are commonly considered too hard for the chess.com community to solve. They just stare at the solutions in disbelief and admiration just as amateurs in ice skating stare at the twists and twirls of the professionals. They play with the same rules - but in a higher class. The professional chess puzzle domain also has its own recognized Masters and Grand Masters - only a bit better than the ones you heard about. Well, I need not explain what they think of your "3 seconds puzzle".

StockfishThinksImStupid

You forget YOU ARE LITERALLY 3600 IN PUZZLES. Bro this puzzle is going to confuse like the average to beginner chess players, which 80% of them are on chess.com. not this level 3600 bc your obviously very good at puzzles.

StockfishThinksImStupid

@JTZ01 Also its much harder to solve a puzzle by yourself than looking at the answer and getting the ideas

every puzzle is interesting, albeit some are easier than others. But as a dude with 3k puzzle rating i dont fully agree with you
