Mate in 2 moves


Of course black would capture with his king! It's not a mate in 2. yep so in title i said mate in 2

This is an excellent Mate-in-2 problem, composed by Heathcote more than a century ago.
The idea is that Black, if given the turn in the diagram, is in zugzwang. The BQ cannot move without allowing either 2.Qxh7 or 2.Nf2 mate, and any BB move would permit 2.Qb1 mate. However, with White to play, there's no waiting move that could preserve this zugzwang, e.g. 1.Kh5? h6!, 1.Rh5? Qe3+! In order to mate in 2, White surprisingly abandons the zugzwang and plays a move that sets up a mating threat.
