Mate with one bishop

It's easy

Dosen't 1...Ka2 save the day for black, at least in terms of a draw? Or am I missing something.

Isaac

stats_man

check that. I thought pawn was at a3 in  beginning of puzzle.

Still, I can help but think that black has to make a horrendous blunder to get trapped like this.

Ya, true

IPA-Ray

There is a pawn on a2 so the king cannot go there. Or are you talking about Black's last move?

IPA-Ray

I meant a7 as you did.

IPA-Ray

Would you believe h7?

Or may be this position arose after a massive series of forced exchanges at the end of a brilliant combination by white... the next move Bg7# 1-0 is the culmination of that 20+ - move brilliancy, which please to post :)

Or, seriously, it would be nice if someone constructed a (pref. deep/deepish) combination which ends this way...

WhiteFire

this is imposible, in order to get to the position above it would be stallmate.

this is how you checkmate with one bishop:

not impossible, black could have moved a2?? trapping the king and thus the bishop could mate

true, it is possible -  but then if the deep combination I longed for depends on ..a2?? on the penultimate move, then .. then it does not exist, QED. :(

AMcHarg

8dot8 is right, it isn't impossible, but it does require black to make a blunder.  Black can force the draw by never touching the pawn.

a8a4

the point is that it is not impossible...

but what game would ever end that way. Even my 3year old cousin who doesn't even know how to play chess would not get them selves into that mate.

Maurissius

This one is easy

Probably because your cousin is more likely to pick up the pawn and chew on it's head! lol Smile

ChessMobb

lol comment #9 Whitefire? What the Heck were u thinking? Why didnt u get promoted instead u blocked urself and mated. Someone should slap you in the face if that ever happened in real life

I think that you all seem to forget that the bishop moves to b2,which means that the board is flipped, in other words, the black pawn moves FORWARD, when you look at this side of the board. All of your "solutions" are based on the movement on the pawn being backward.
