If I want to improve my chess skills, is that helpful to train with other mind games as checkers, reverso, Go, Backgammon or maybe Sudoku ? And if answer is Yes, what are the mind games whose practice will help the improvement in chess.

Thank you for your feedback about this matter and Happy New Year!

Better would be to solve chess compositions.

before i go to a tournament, i like to solve a sudoku puzzle. when your mind's groggy yeah it helps. but chess is chess.

erikido23

wouldn't solving chess compositions fall under the umbrella of studying chess?

OK , so I will focus my training only on chess, but I will try the hint from easylimbo to warm up my brain with a simple mind game as sudoku puzzle before playing a tough chess game!

I play a lot of poker, backgammon, checkers and arimaa. I find playing these games prepares your mind because I believe you can over do it in one game and find it harder to concentrate later when you need too.

Checkers and arimaa are especially good compliments to chess.

Not really, It might stop you from seeing bad moves but it won't improve your overall chess skill.

Yoga and meditation. Not games, but non-chess activities that will improve your chess.

Really? It would be good to try that!
