@OP: I think the timer may, indeed, be turned off. I will check TT now to see if I can figure out how.
timer off.

Yes, the timer can be hidden. Under LEARN in the menu bar, click Tactics Trainer. Then on the right side, click Settings. You should see a checkbox for "Show Timer." Uncheck that box, and that should fix your problem.

If anyone can tell me how to turn the timer off and be judged for my solving the problem and not for how fast I solve the problem, let me know.
Even with the timer off, your rating will be impacted by the time it takes to solve the puzzle. Turning it off just gets rid of the psychological factor (the ticking clock).
However, I would suggest turning off the timer and taking your time. You will lose points sometimes, even when solving the tactic. With time you will get faster and you rating will get better as you begin recognizing more patterns. Work on keeping your pass % as high as possible.

Oops, that's right. I didn't mean to say that the timer could be turned completely off. Tactics trainer needs to factor in our time taken in order to evaluate how effectively we're solving the tactics. But the time bar was distracting to me too, until I was able to remove it.
Martin_Stahl's advice is exactly right. Don't try to solve the tactics quickly. Only care about getting them right, and let your rating do what it will. As you go, you will get faster.

I agree. I get flustered and always look at the timer, then make the wrong move. I play correspondence chess, so time is not a factor. My online rating is around 1350, yet my tactics trainer rating is under 1000. It would be cool if you could turn off the timer and have your rating not be affected.

@Buddhalove: You can use Tactics Trainer unrated. While in Tactics Trainer, click on Settings. In the drop-down menu labeled "Training Mode," select "Unrated."

You can turn off the Tactics Trainer Timer (TTT), but I think it will go on to unrated if you do that one.

I found a tactics trainer that is much better go to chesstempo.com there is no time involved at all and it gives you an accurate calculation of your rating . It also provides a choice of motifs that you would like to work on, ( forks , pins , ect.) and it is free! If you want to work on endgame you get 2 problems a day , but for 20 bucks a year you get 20. I hope you like this site as much as I do.

@OP - So many times I use TT and get it wrong then see the correct move. Sometimes of course, it’s because I can rule out the move I just made and look for another but more often, I see the move in the few seconds after I fail. If I’d just had a few more seconds I’d do it but I panic and play too quickly. I have no solution other than those mentioned but I share your pain.

I have just used the tactic trainer on chess.com and I feel that the timer is a problem to having a good thought process. If I have to think as fast as possible to solve the problem and move my rating up then Iam studying for blitz. What if I want a solid thought process that takes more time? I cant get my rating to go up and the problems stay very low of difficulty even though I can solve 80%percent of them. I wish there was a way to turn the timer OFF. I like to play blitz chess, but only for fun . I play real chess (long games 30 to 40 min) for the deep well planed lines and stratagy. If anyone can tell me how to turn the timer off and be judged for my solving the problem and not for how fast I solve the problem, let me know. I well continue to take my TIME.Analysis and evaluation theory are also good skills to learn, not just time managment skills.
