This whole incident was the first time in my life I got a glimpse into the culture and the mindset of average Indonesians. It was not very positive.

In any county there are cheaters and there are people who will post nasty things online... I don't think it's fair to look at the worst people can say that's the average.

Most people don't play chess of course, and I heard that their media presented the story in a way that made it seem very unfair to Dewa Kipas... which means of course they will believe chess.com is a fraud or some other silly thing that chess players know is not true... that was the whole reason for the live match to get some proof about how well he could play.

Yes it's very annoying that a cheater makes money from lies and cheating, but again, I'm sure he doesn't represent the country.

Very good point.

In my experience, years ago before chess.com era, my friend was popular as a good chess player and me too.

So, in friends gathering people watched us  playing chess interestingly. I won him easily and later we found out that his rating in chess.com was 1400 and I was 2000+.

The story is if you were 1300- 1400, you were like chess GOD among friends and family.  That is why his son believe his father was like a master.

Thousands of ignorant, smart-aleck Internet warriors defended this cheating scum whereas only a very small fraction represented the voice of reason. If we go by these numbers I can easily imagine how ... unpleasant and backwards these people in general must be.

I invite anyone to feel offended by my words, heck, report me even. I know what I know.

Then there is the silent majority. You may not know what you think you know. But then who knows? Not this bunny.

Fine, okay, I'm sorry.

270 million, you say? I honestly had no clue its population was THAT large! Granted, after some contemplation on my part my judgement really does sound silly and unjust, so I will distance myself from my previous words.

That's OK.  We wear our blunders as badges.

One time when I was 1300 a new player came to our small club and I played some friendly games with him (no clock). I was a little bit better than him, but I won both the games. Like you said, he was one of these people who only played family and friends, so he was amazed I was so good, and thought I was a chess master or something. It was pretty funny to me.

Are you the god of saying ditto? Newly joined with 3 friends who also newly joined, all from Indonesia.

Perhaps the fan god is doing for Indonesians what Beth was doing for females?

I am not a Dewa Kipa but I'd like to play with Irene Sukandar. It is an honor to play and try to beat her fair and square.
