Firefox VS internet explorer?

Explorer isn't quite fitted for the format of chess.com while firfox does satisfy this issue, Yes firefox will overlap on explorer I have fox on my 2 gig flashdrive and i use it instead of explorer.

For some reason when you play live chess on this site you're much more prone to disconnects if you use Internet explorer than you are with firefox. Someone else probably knows more than me but firefox was designed to be less prone to viruses and generally more stable. You don't have to delete Internet explorer just use firefox when you want to play chess.... I'm not a computer expert though....

i tried firefox once but i couldnt get this site to come up.
I use FireFox and IE. I find some sites work better with one or the other.
As for IE being more open to malware and viruses, that is only because IE is far more popular than Firefox (think on it: if you were they type to create a virus, would you want it to affect the most popular browser or an also-ran?). If you have a good internet secruity program, there is little reason to worry about malware with IE.
In the past there was much more difference, but these days, they are much more the same than different. IE used to have a lot of problems with security and web standards (meaning there were a lot more security holes, and pages didn't always show up properly, even if the code was correct as per web standards). These days, these issues are largely resolved. Firefox 3 is adding some nice features, and IE8 looks to have possibly overtaken Firefox in a few areas. The main difference is that Firefox supports more features and new functionality via it's module interface.
I live in the Philippines, the homeport of super hackers. So I use Firefox to avoid worms and virus. Also, firefox is a free program and I would be surprised to find anything free from MS.

That's not entirely correct. First of all, FireFox is pretty popular. I don't remember the saturation numbers anymore, but there are a LOT of people using it these days. Secondly, Firefox is more secure if for no other reason than the open source community is typically better able to adopt changes and fix security holes when they are discovered when compared to the lumbering beauracracy that is Microsoft.
Another difference that I haven't seen mentioned here is speed. Firefox 3 is fast! It's the fastest browser I've used.
ok interesting thoughts. If i use firefox will it override explorer? or add to it and use more memory? u will have to forgive my ignorance in this. I dont know all that much about the net and various things to do with it like firefox...

No, it will not override IE, they are seperate. No, it will not use more memory, but it does use more Hard Drive space, though, the amount is so small that it will not really make any difference on newer computers.
Fire fox is less prone to viruses and it is not because it is less popular, it is the way it was construted.

That's not true... like I said before, they are much more similar than different these days, but there are certain situations where I can see definitely using one over the other. The main one that comes to mind is in a corporate setting, if you have an Active Directory based domain, IE is more manageable and functional in situations such as intranets, etc. I use both, but IE is my main browser, and I have never had any problems with worms/malware, etc. In the end the browser is only a tool, and it all depends on how you use it.

Hi now i know this isnt really a chess related question. But i have to ask to satisfy my curiousity. Can someone pls explain to me what the differences are between firefox and internet explorer ? why u like one over the other ? and would firefox over lap internet explorer or what?
I ask this question because i have internet explorer and i have noticed most on this site preffer firefox and i was wondering why quite honestly? ....
