Hey, this is actually one of the better places on the internet, nearly all of the people that you will meet here are very nice.

I would sugest just getting in a bunch of games with people, I have met multiple people who I would like to just hang out hours on end.

So enjoy yourself and don't be afraid to strike up a conversation with whoever you are playing chess, I have yet to play someone who I plain don't like.

Speaking of which, why is there no political or religious debates in the off topic forum? Seems strange to me. 

Because just think about how up in arms people get about those topics, and allowing that would give the fire room to breath.

Just be warned, there is no actual debating, just a whole bunch of people giving leanthy discussions and for the most part ignoring other people. At least it's better than a flamewar though...
