How Dark are you?

I bumped into an interesting article about The Dark Triad at sciencealert.com. The triad is the junction of psychopathy, narcissism, and Machiavellianism, three of our worst traits. In addition to those there are sadism, egoism, spitefulness, and such. Basically all humankind's worst tendencies. Some scientists who study these kinds of things call the combination of those traits the D Factor or the Dark Factor of Personality. They created a questionnaire they say can indicate what a person's D Factor may be. I thought some folks here might like to see how good or evil they really are so here's the link to their page.

So, let's see some results.

Worst in what way, or what do you mean by evil?

Can people with these traits live happy and/or successful lives? Can people with these traits contribute to society? If you label them like this only because they make other people sad or uncomfortable, aren't you just labeling them as bad out of selfishness?

Goodness me, what a lot of questions. The "evil" was my expression. The scientists just call them dark personality traits. People with a high D Factor can certainly lead happy, productive lives. As far as the labels being selfish you'll have to ask the scientists.

I scored 53% overall. Pretty average I guess.

97% on egoism, and 5% on greed lol. I guess that balances me out.

So like, I'll hurt my community for the sake of my own pleasure... but I have no desire for anything lol.

I was going to wait and post my score after a few others had but I'm tired and quitting for the night. I should have posted this morning when I first took the test.

I scored 1.46 for a rank of 7%.

7%?

What a wimp tongue.png

But sure, it's really useful for society / communities, to have people who are willing to hurt themselves for the sake of others. Helps the world keep a turnin'

That's not really what that score means, but okay.

Tell me how you define ethics, and give an example of someone behaving ethically.

In any case

"The Dark Factor of Personality (D) specifies the basic principle underlying all dark traits. D is the tendency to maximize one's individual utility — disregarding, accepting, or malevolently provoking disutility for others"

This means if you're low in the D factor, you're more likely to act as if the utility of others is more important than your own.

In the Christian Bible it says:

"Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends."

Throughout history societies have celebrated self sacrifice as the pinnacle of nobility. From an evolutionarily biology POV this makes sense, as it's evolutionarily useful for at least some individuals to sacrifice themselves for the good of the group.

Final score of 47% so I'm basically average

I didn't post the link to get into a big philosophical discussion about human psychology. You'll have to find someone else for that.
I'm not a Christian and I'm not real keen on self sacrifice for the benefit of others. My score comes from the fact that I don't like people messing with me so I don't mess with other people. In fact, I'm perfectly happy when people just stay away from me. It prevents a lot of headache and irritation.
I'm not anti-social, just asocial. To expand on that here is an excerpt from an article describing the differences between anti- and a- social. The emphasis is mine.

5 ways being an introvert is nothing like being antisocial

"Introverts typically enjoy small get-togethers — they have social skills and they feel a deep connection with those they are close to. Introverts are simply more selective about how they socialize, and need periods of solitude in order to best care for themselves, according to Kozak.

This is compared to people who are antisocial: They are unable to connect or feel empathy and will sometimes act out in a manner that is destructive or goes against societal norms."
