I Am Legend unanswered question...

Hey this is for anyone who saw I Am Legend...

How did "Fred", the mannequinfrom the movie store, get into the middle of that street?  Apparently the "infected" set it up, but just previous to that, Will Smith's character said into his lab mic that they no longer showed any human characteristics at all. So they couldn't have set it.   Any ideas???

lol         yeah overall I really liked the movie, but that was the one thing that kind of bothered me.    The theater I was in was way too loud though.

you know ''I Am Legend'' is a remake of ''The Last Man on Earth'' (1964) starring Vincent Price

Though of course the zombies seemed much less threatening.

Was "Fred" playing chess?

I am legend is based on the book of the same name isn't it?

Its just about to come out over here, but I'm not going to see it, as I quite enjoyed the book.

yes, I do know that this is the 3rd movie based on the book I Am Legend. That's not what I asked. I just want to know how the mannequin got set up as a trap in the middle of a street.

I saw the movie, over all i thought it was pretty good but we also wondered how Fred got out into the street but then again you watch the movie to be entertained. If you liked this movie then you would probably like ( The Omega Man)

I think Smith's character was mistaken that these zombies are stupid. Because that guy (the one who was screaming more than others, and the one who broken glass to kill Smith in the end) seemed like leader of other zombies - he was given orders, tried to be behind when there was something dangerous(mines, etc.), so I guess he was smart guy.

But I have another question. When Smith found "Fred", and then was attacked by dogs, I saw that zombie, standing in the window with dogs.  So why after all the dogs were dead, this zombie didn't go outside and kill Smith?! He could easily do it!

The ending was really odd.  I have a recurring mental vision of Will Smith packing his medical lab.

"Alright, I have my needles, my vials.... OOPS, I forgot to pack my conveniently located Hand Grenade."

It was an emotional and good ending, just an odd one.

I don't think the zombies had leashes.

The cars were cleared because there was a mad rush to escape the city, so everyone took their cars to the exits which is why the roads around the exits were so blocked up.

The zombies probably ate all the dead people. (They spoke about the zombies running out of food and therefore becoming more aggressive.)

I think the zombies did set up the mannequin; they were pretty smart, the crept up on what they thought was will smith at the south street seaport, the followed him back to his house. Ole Willy said they don't exhibit human "social behavior" anymore, but they were still mad smart.

Will Smith wanted to be remembered as "Legend"; part of what was interesting is that I think he wanted to be a Christ-figure--- "EVERYONE IS DEAD! NO ONE IS ALIVE! I AM THE LAST ONE!" to the lady who comes by. That's why he killed himself, probably.

Many of Your questions are valid though.

I thought it was interesting that Will Smith's character remarked: "Social de-evolution appears complete. Typical human behavior is now entirely absent," when referring to the male zombie exposing himself to light after the female zombie was snared in Smith's trap. I personally thought the male zombie's attempt to help the female zombie displayed human characteristics such as friendship, sacrificing oneself for others, and possibly love. Maybe I read it wrong, but it seemed like Smith had it backwards to me.

Also I thought it was odd how they took the title of the book, but Smith never spoke the lines which gave the book the title.

In the original novel they were vampires- the classic "Dracula" type.  The ending makes more sense that way- at the end Robert Neville realizes that things have gone full circle- that these creatures of myth and legend were the norm now and that he, as the last human, was the "legend" in their world.  This crap at the end about "this is the story of Robert Neville and this is his legend" was pretty stupid.  And they weren't "zombies" in the movie- as proven by the fact that the one in the lab was being cured in the end.

If any of you have ever read the original story, please explain to me what would be so dang hard about making an accurate movie based on this story?

One last thing- does anyone know what Robert Neville is an anagram of?

Never bore till? I think the original book ending is better. The hollywood ending just pissed me off. And who buys the fresh prince as a bad ass vampire killing machine any way.

Darrin

Will Smith I like, his movies I like, I just thought the ending of this one was dumb.  And <bong> never bore till is incorrect, thank you for playing.  Next?

Please people, stop misusing the term 'zombie'. I take great umbrage to this. Just because they are pale, or attack in packs, or even thirst for blood, doesn't mean they are ZOMBIES. In I am Legend (the book, by Richard Matheson ), they are vampires (as others have posted). In Omega Man they were some weird green hippie undead cult (so 70's). The only reason they're calling them zombies now is because zombies currently have box office juice. But zombies, as any other genre, have certain story requirements, or themes if you will, that this movie certainly does not live up to. Of course there can be flexibility in this. But if something doesn't drink blood, can it really be considered a vampire? The same internal logic applies to my slow, flesh-eating friends. The main truth in a zombie film is it never matters why the dead have risen, its just society can never get its shit together to overcome it.

Grainpsilo, you are wrong on a few accounts. First of all the enture movie takes place in manhattan. I live in Manhattan... trust me on this. So last_file does have a point here. I repeat: the entire movie takes place on the island of Manhattan (actually, pretty much downtown Manhattan except for one driving scene on the Upper East Side) so it is only reachable by tunnel/bridge. (Or ferry... I think the survivor and the boy said something about being on a ferry or a boat... maybe that's it)

Also, the blood is from the zombie, not will Smith! The cure is in the zombie's blood, will smith is immune as well as all the survivors. (They say this in the movie.) There is some cure will smith finds that he extracts from the zombie.
