I Could Use Some Advice...

Hello.. So, you know when you accidentally hurt someone you care A LOT about.. and they forgive you and that they dont want things to change. And they keep telling you that they forgive you, yet you still feel pretty guilty... What do you do? I mean, I try to make things go back to usual, but I'm finding it really difficult. I realized I'm starting to make the other person feel guilty. So, I put on a fake face, and try to make it seem like everything is okay, when it doesnt really feel like it. Should I drop my guard and tell them all that is on my mind? Or should I just act like nothings wrong?

You can ask them if they're really ok, and help them as much as u can

This is an interesting thought... well, I don’t think you’re making the other person feel guilty, they probably just care a lot about you and want both of you to be happy. Whether you tell them everything that’s on your mind is completely your choice, but it might help to create a bond between the two.

A lot of detail missing

But without the details : talk to the person

They’re obviously important to you and if that’s the case they deserve to know how you feel

But really it depends on the details and what you did that you feel guilty about

If it’s normal stuff learning to talk about it and get it off your chest is a skill you’ll likely need in life because none of your relationships will be perfect

But if you did something like burn a Gypsy camp and killed the persons whole family well…I’m not sure talking to them about it will help

Well said Peet. Well said.

I did something like that a long while ago... Eventually i forgot about it. But recently i remembered it and cried for a while. But the person i hurt forgot that i did something to them, so i just put the incident behind me. If your friend (or whoever) forgave you and wants to put it in the past, then do the same. You might still feel bad a while after, but you'll make it through

But this was a long time ago so i never talked with them about it...

Use Peet's advice first

Idk what to do. Doggo brain can’t process

Another possibly helpful note: if you are in a relationship, sometimes not talking to your significant other or the person you feel like you’ve hurt can create a lot of tension.

There are many benefits to sharing everything (good stories, bad stories, thoughts, sadness, etc..) with the other person. And If what you did to make them feel guilty was unintentional, then simply explain that to them, they’ll probably understand!

Overall, being open with the other person typically has really good effects and outcomes, although there are cases where that can cause problems, it is less likely. If the other person is usually open with you, then you should/could probably be open with them, and not really have to worry about saying something that could come off as wrong, or something that they won’t like.

Hope this helps..! 🙂

why we talking about this in the first place...

UnclePeet
Why indeed?

We could be discussing the deep intricacies of some anime characters choice of sneaker rather than answer a forum members honest request for advice!
ThatGuyNamedJeff

Lots of people here have given good advice here, just try and be honest with them if you think that is the best option

UnclePeet
What a dumb post you wrote all that and meant it?

You basically took “I hurt someone’s feelings and feel really bad about it even though they said it’s ok” and turned into that giant rant?
