Someone has a thread on the go here about getting a new Rolls. Well Rolls-Royce cars are getting to be very commonplace, but ask yourself how many Borgwards have you seen driving around   lol.

---   Thanks for the posts Ofgeniuskind. Needless to say YouTube can be used to find video-clips of these types of cars ( & many other makes of cars as well ).

---   Borgwards were built in Germany and exported to many parts of the world in the middle and late 1950's. They were competing directly with the smaller Mercedes models ( ie: the Mercedes 190 and 180 cars ).

Hmm good to know, although I thought Germany wasn't a big car manufacturer
AlCzervik

 what??

ofdumbkind, you know nothing about vehicles.

bmw, mb, porsche.  just three you may have heard of if you are above age ten.

Volkswagen (German, 'Peoples Car') had the largest number of worldwide sales of any automotive manufacturer last year. The company and production was launched in 1937 and was heavily funded by the Nazi party, with enthusiastic backing by the Führer who wanted average German families to have an affordable automobile just like the Americans had. In the early 30's only around 1/50 German families owned a car because the Porsches etc were too expensive for the average Wolfgang. Ferdinand Porsche was himself instrumental in designing the iconic VW beetle.

I found out some interesting info earlier today. Most car-fans would know that Peugeot bought out Citroen some years back. However now Peugeot has bought Opel and Vauxhall from General Motors ( soon Peugeot might become the GMC of Europe   lol ).

Those of us that used to read Popular Mechanics ( etc ) back in the 1960's may remember the ads for the King Midget mini-cars, very cute little machines. They were built in Athens, Ohio and were powered by a air-cooled one cylinder Kohler engine and could hit 55 mph ( with no head-wind   lol ). I see that YouTube has several videos up showing some King-Midget car shows, is that really a big deal ? ( sorry couldn't resist ).

Ulfheadnar1234: The German versions of Borgwards went out of production in 1961 but I had heard that they are trying to bring the name back. One of the people involved in this new project is named Christian Borgward, possibly a grandson of the founder of the firm.

The first Borgward that I had ( back in the late 1960's ) was a 1957 stationwagon but that not the only one that I owned. Later I had a 1959 wagon and also a 1960 sedan. The Borgward that eluded me was their cute little 2 door Sports-coupe but those were very rare.

Btw anyone else out there ever own a VW Micro Bus ? Many years ago I owned a 1958 model complete with 1200 cc motor that put out all of 36 hp. Well VW has announced that the Micro Bus is coming back for 2021 and it will also be sold in North America again. The new wrinkle is that these vehicles will be using electric power.

Getting back to vehicles that I owned many many years ago I started off with a 1952 ( or 1953 ? ) Studebaker 4 door sedan complete with suicide doors at the back. It was powered by a in-line 6 cylinder motor of the flat-head design. To start the car was quite simple as you just turned on the key and then pushed the clutch to the floor which would engage the starter.

Another cute little machine that I had long ago was a 1960 DKW Auto Union Station-wagon. These vehicles had a 3 cylinder motor and were FWD. They were also a 2 stroke design so I usually carried along at least I quart of motor-boat oil. The layout of the DKWs was basically the same as the 1950s Saab cars.
