Having had pet rats, I can tell you that they're actually pretty good at keeping themselves clean and don't smell like much at all.

Their pee, though, can be awful.

Many people write here against the OP and ridicule him. I think that there's no reason to do this. His complaint is legitimate.

He's an inexperienced player, and he obviously used an engine only in that one game, just to make sure that the other guy was indeed cheating. The complaint is totally legitimate, the way I see it.

Someone with more experience wouldn't use that method - he would simply report the matter to staff ASAP with all particulars - but I really see no reason for ridicule here.

Is your friend's name Stockfish? If it walks like a rat, and it bites like a rat, and it squeeks like a rat, it's probably a rat.

Op is getting ridiculed because there is so much irony in this whole post. Him using engine during game (cheating) to prove that his opponent was cheating. It sounds funny although the concern of someone using engine assists is very much real. Also the headline ''I smell a rat'' is ironic since in this context ''rat'' would refer to someone who is a snitch or has "tattled" on another person and not the cheater. So OP would be smelling him/herself. :)

This thread is so ridiculous that it may have been written seriously

Wait, am I reading this right? Did the OP use his friends engine to beat a 900, then accuse the 900 of cheating?

Yes I did...to prove a point. Time was the factor in deciding the outcome of that pathetic game. Administrators have castigated me for doing so but I needed to see for myself.... On line chess has become a pain..Oh...and don't worry. I slipped this on before posting. I always wear the proper attire in such circumstances. At least one rat won't burn to a crisp..

Who's that?

WHy does it matter if people use engines? Chess is chess, and it's not like it matters one bit of anything what so ever if you loose or win a random blitz game on chess.co

BlargDragon

That "What does it matter?" appeal really has no logical end. We can take it a step back and ask "Why does it matter that chess.com disallows engines?" Ultimately, what matters is that the staff decided this is a site where people are to play other people.

I think a case could be made that people ought to be allowed to use engines if they disclose that they're doing so, and so long as people are given an option to opt out of playing against engine accounts.

I hope they investigate it.  I mean, I guess ideally, they'll test the suspect's archived games against a computer.  Is there a system in place to punish cheaters, be it banning them, or lowering their ratings?  This could help prevention as well.
